Dear Supporters,
Cape Downwinders will be hosting an evening of discussion and information that will focus on "The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (PNPS) and the threat to Cape Cod". It will take place on Friday April 26, 2013 at the Mashpee Town Hall, 16 Great Neck Road North, Mashpee at 7 PM. The event will consist of guest speakers including State Senator Dan Wolf along with co-founders Diane Turco and David Agnew of Cape Downwinders. The Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth will be discussed to include facts regarding operational history, nuclear waste storage, environmental and health concerns, the lessons learned from Fukushima and the lack of any emergency plan for Cape Cod.
Meg Sheehan, an environmental Lawyer and founding partner of EcoLaw and Cape Cod Bay Watch will explain the environmental impact PNPS has on Cape Cod Bay. She will discuss Pilgrim's once through cooling system, the current construction for long term nuclear waste storage and leaking Tritium. Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen and has been leaking into the ground water for decades.
A Cape-wide effort for a non-binding public advisory question will ask Cape Cod voters to close Pilgrim because safety can not be assured and there is no plan for evacuation. All Cape towns will be participating in this campaign with a Ballot question or a Town Article by letting the residents of Cape Cod voice their opinion regarding this important issue.
