A "Plug-In" workshop for those concerned about the dangers of the continuing operation of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (PNPS) will be held on Wednesday, February 6, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Plymouth Public Library, 132 South Street in Plymouth. The event will be hosted by the Pilgrim Coalition, an organization committed to educating the public about what it considers significant risks to public safety, health, and our environment. Those interested in supporting the effort are invited.

"We are looking for more people to get involved and help educate the public on safety and environmental dangers from the Pilgrim Nuclear Facility. There are many different ways people can help out. The Plug-In event will allow people who want to get involved to learn how to do so in various ways" said Arlene Williamson, a member of the Pilgrim Coalition and a Cape Cod resident.

The coalition, which includes members from Boston, the South Shore and Cape Cod, last year sponsored ballot and Town Meeting initiatives which asked the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to deny Entergy Corporation of Louisiana, owner and operator of the Pilgrim facility, a license to operate another 20 years unless safety measures were established. Despite the positive votes of the people of Plymouth and 10 other towns and subsequent letters of support from community leaders, the NRC voted to allow the 40-year-old reactor's continued operation.

"This is a way for those who want to get involved to join our effort to educate the public and get our information out there," said Anna Baker of the Pilgrim Coalition. "One of the reasons I've been drawn to this issue is that it is a 'trump all' one: a problem at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station could wipe out most of the Greater Boston region for thousands of years. The nuclear reactor is antiquated and has many known vulnerabilities, yet many folks within arms' reach of the reactor don't even know about these. It is time to get the word out."
