The First of Many to Come

Robert Speaks to the
 Tavares Chamber of Commerce

Last year when Robert Buss joined the Golden Triangle Chapter of Toastmasters at Osprey Lodge he never imagined being tapped to speak at the Tavares Chamber's Monthly Business Luncheon.

Congratulations Robert! You did an awesome job articulating the Lodge culture, and now you have that important "first public speech" notch on your tool belt.
On Opportunities
(Excerpt from Harvard Business School's 2013 commencement address)

Look for opportunities; look for growth; sideways; move down; move on; move off. Build your skills, not your resume. Evaluate what you can do, not the title they're going to give you. Do real work. Take a sales quota, a line role, an ops job. Don't plan too much, and don't expect a direct climb. If I had mapped out my career when I was sitting where you are, I would have missed my career. ~

Accidental Change Makers

 (Success Nugget)

In 1826 John Walker was merely trying to scrape chemicals off the end of a mixing stick when a flame erupted - inventing "friction lights", or as we call them today, matches.

Using a microscope George de Mastral saw how prickly burrs  were able to grab onto the dog's fur and his hunting clothes, sparking the  invention of Velcro.

In 1945 Percy Spencer felt the chocolate bar in his pocket begin to melt as he stood in front of a radio wave-emitting magnetron. He then sent out for popcorn kernels (which began to pop) - leading to the invention of the microwave oven.
