Putting Lodge Teams Together

(Using principals from Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success)

While we are working hard on the hiring processes to open Crane's View and Stuart Lodge, we deem it important to hire great collaborators as team members. We are looking for people who will take on tasks in their team's best interest, not necessarily their own personal interest.

Studies show that on average, from sales to surgical and restaurants staff, the more giving team members do, the higher the quality and quantity of their team's products and services. Successful givers expand the pie in ways that benefit themselves as well as their team. Research also reveals that people who give their time and knowledge regularly to help colleagues end up earning more raises and promotions in a wide range of settings.

The term "expedition behavior" was coined by the leadership school that provides wilderness training to thousands, including NASA astronauts.  It involves putting the groups goals and mission first, showing the same amount of concern for others as you do yourself. Jeff Ashby, a NASA space shuttle commander, who has flown more than 400 orbits around the earth, says that expedition behavior is what helps us succeed in space more than anything else.

In many ways, the givers we are looking to hire for every lodge will want to surrender themselves to the cause of helping elders change the world. They will understand intuitively that the best thing for them is for the cause to succeed.

 The Generosity Boomerang
(Seth Godin)

Here's conventional wisdom:

Success makes you happy. Happiness permits you to be generous.

In fact, it actually works like this: Generosity makes you happy. Happy people are more likely to be successful.
