Achievement vs Success

Milestone achievements let us know we are on the right path. WHY we do what we do is just as important as WHAT we do. A wise man once said, "Money can't buy happiness, but it pays for the yacht to pull alongside it." The yacht represents our achievements: that feeling of success is what should come alongside the yacht. Sometimes you get both, and sometimes you don't.
In the pursuit of success some people mistake WHAT they achieve as the final destination, so they never feel satisfied no matter how big their yacht is. Many assume that if they simply achieve more the feeling of success will follow. Achievements and measurable success may get us more yachts, it rarely fulfills us. If along the journey we forget WHY we set out on the journey in the first place, we will feel it and others (employees, customers and community) will too.
Those who never lose sight of WHY, no matter how little or how much they achieve, can inspire us. Those who never lose sight of WHY and also achieve the milestones that keep everyone focused in the right direction are the great leaders. Success comes when we never lose sight of WHY we do WHAT we do. |
