Learning To Trust

(A nugget from the book " Start with Why")

If a company mistreats its people, just watch how the employees treat their customers. Mud rolls down a hill, and the person standing at the bottom takes the full brunt. In a company, that's usually the customer.

The former head of Southwest Airlines was considered crazy for believing that it was a company's responsibility to look after its employees first. Happy employees ensure happy customers, he said. And happy customers ensure happy shareholders - in that order.

Trust does not come because a company creates reasons why the customer should buy a product or service, or because an executive promises change. Trust is not a checklist. Neither does fulfilling duties create trust. Trust is a feeling, not a rational experience. We often trust people and companies when things go wrong, and not trust others even though things have gone exactly as they should. A completed checklist does not guarantee trust. Trust begins to emerge when people perceive that another person or organization is driven by something other than their own self-gain.

Things that make you go hmmm...

Cahoots?

I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.

I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. Maybe that's a good thing!

I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made a few trips there, thanks to friends, family and work. Some of my friends have even been driven there by their kids.

I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump. These days I limit physical activity so don't go there very often.

I have also been in Doubt. That's a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.

I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.

Sometimes I'm in Capable. It seems I go there more often the older I get.

One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenaline flowing and pumps up the (old) heart! These days, I welcome all the stimuli I can get!

I haven't been in Continent, and don't remember seeing this country in the atlas in school. More mature friends tell me 'it's an age thing' and very wet and damp there.
