A phrase often used around the Lodge is "mad science". We are encouraging our team to start participating in a culture of change, and recognize that small unique ideas are most remembered. The formula for exceeding someone's expectations calls for the science of experimenting until positive results are achieved.

Ruth Back, one of our Lodge Ambassadors, recently asked a resident and her visiting daughter where they were going for dinner that evening. After hearing their destination, Ruth called ahead to make a reservation, then informed our resident the restaurant would be expecting them.

Did her effort take a lot of time or expense; of course not. It was simply an uncommon gesture from the front desk of a care home. Our resident took sheer delight in the unexpected; it was "mad science".
