The Sun in Bemidji, Minnesota
The sun isn't even a pearl today -
its light diffused, strained gray
by winter haze - this the grayest
day so far, so when I enter the Wells
Fargo parking lot the last thing I expect
is to see the sun in the car next to mine.
I watch a woman make out with the sun,
and I'm jealous of the sun. Beautiful
beyond her desire - wanting the sun
so - she almost glows as she tugs
sweetness from his whiskers with
her teeth, and his drool runs down
her chin. I think the sun is a man,
but it's hard to tell in this light. No,
it's a mango, and I'm jealous of her.

ART PI
Anything that has the word "tiny" in it grabs me. And a number too? You bet. BJ Fogg, director of the Persuasive Tech Lab at Stanford, is trying his darndest to train our brains to do what we want them to. (Do you have a few of those comic thought bubbles above your head too?) Go ahead, make one a speech bubble, "Yikes, I have a grant deadline just around the corner!" OK good. Click on TINY HABITS and read what he has to say. It's free, it's 5 days! Decide what your 3 Tiny's will be, or even easier he has a list right there to choose from. Here's an example: After I brush my teeth in the morning I will turn on my computer. That's it just turn it on. He's bypassing motivation (we all know where that gets us) and heads for casting that line and hooking it onto something you already do. Drink coffee? Make toast? I was skeptical too. But, if you're interested in human nature and the art of creating, and you want to finally apply for that grant this year, then why not. It just might be the tiniest thing of January that will have you galloping down a clever new trail!
