Grant Awards


Region 2 Arts Council has named jewelry artist Monica Hansmeyer and sculptural glass artist Sandra Fynboh Andress our R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellows for 2015. 

Monica plans to mentor with master jeweler Andrew Olive in Minneapolis and attend a 2-week jewelry class/retreat at the Mendicino Art Center in California. 

Sandy's plans include taking Loren Stump's Butterfly Murrini class at Flametree Studio in Atlanta and purchasing the equipment necessary to create complex murrini in her home studio.

This fall, Region 2 Arts Council awarded Arts and Cultural Heritage Grants to 14 arts organizations in Region 2.

In November and December we will be holding "Listening Sessions" in each of our five counties to capture your feedback and ideas. Join us!

November 6th at 5:30 at the Fireside Grill in Bagley

November 13th at 5:30 in the Coldwell Banker Community Room in Park Rapids.

The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant is due on Saturday November 1, 2014. Our office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. if you wish to drop off your application personally.

If you know students in grades 8-12 who are dedicated artists, writers, dancers, actors, or musicians, encourage them to stop by the R2AC office on Saturday November 1st between 10 a.m. and noon for help applying for an Artist Mentor Grant! We are also available throughout the month for one-on-one appointments. Call us!

The following events were made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund: 
Copper Street Brass Quintet concert will take place on November 3rd in the Lake of the Woods School auditorium in Baudette at 7 p.m. as part of a school artist residency.

Watermark Art Center presents the 12th Annual It's Only Clay National Juried Ceramics Exhibit featuring work by artists from around the U.S. Reception is on Friday November 7th from 5-7pm with a brief presentation by guest juror, Karin Kraemer. The exhibit will be on display November 7th through December 20th, 2014.

Bemidji Community Theater presents Fiddler on the Roof at the Historic Chief Theater in Bemidji at 7:30 p.m. on November 14, 15, 21, 22 and matinees at 2 p.m. November 16 & 23. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for kids, available at Shannons Art & Soul in downtown Bemidji.

In fulfillment of her of her R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowship Cate Belleveau and
Mask & Rose Women's Theater Collective present Labels at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Lake Theater in Hubbard. This original theater work explores through masks, movement, and multimedia the concept of how humans label each other. The cost is a sliding fee of $5.00-$15.00. Tickets can be reserved by credit card by calling 218-243-2685 or

"Congratulations to Janet Brademan and all at Headwaters School of Music and the Arts (Bemidji) on a very successful residency last week by Brazilian traditional and contemporary artist Paulo Padilha & Group. In just five days, more than 2,800 school children, in 10 schools, participated. And Saturday's public concert at the Sanford Center was terrific. Great work, Janet and all!" Yes! Thank you, Janet!
