Northern Arts News
July 2013
Greetings!

Summertime and the living is easy and outdoors. Picnics and Pie, an R2AC Arts Gathering, was held in Library Park on June 26th to wrap up a year of collaboration workshops and soirees for the arts. Artists from various disciplines and R2AC board members gathered to celebrate summer and the end of our fiscal year in a relaxed setting by the lake.

The attendees of the Rural Arts and Culture Summit are still talking about the experience. It was a tremendous conference packed with useful information for artists and arts organizations.  Stimulating and inspiring keynote speakers and interesting breakout workshops made it a conference you won't want to miss in the future.

Mark your calendar! R2AC Grant Deadlines for the new fiscal year begin on August 14. And be sure to check out the schedule for upcoming R2AC grant writing workshops.   Our workshops provide handouts, tips, and assistance to help you prepare a successful grant.  R2AC staff is always available to answer questions and guide you through the grant process if you can't attend a workshop.

At the end of June two of our R2AC board members completed their terms. We'd like to thank outgoing Chair Kathy Gustafson of Beltrami county and Secretary Leah Prussia of Mahnomen county for their service to R2AC. Also thank you to board member Mark Anthony Rolo of Mahnomen county for his brief service to R2AC. We value and appreciate the work they do to support the arts in Region 2. As always, we are very grateful to community members who serve on the R2AC board, contributing their artistic knowledge and their time to award grants and to govern our organization.

This past weekend I attended the Indigenous Arts Festival held at the waterfront of the Rail River Folk School.  It is so nice to be outdoors enjoying the arts, and you will find many opportunities to do so this summer in our newsletter.

Enjoy the July weather and don't forget to include the arts in your summer fun.
