ptsa kudos

A HUGE thank you to the PTSA Appropriations Committee chaired by Ally Weingast with Lea Ann Edwards, Aradhana Luthra, SueAnn Morabito, Jackie Cho, Ellyn Krause Pontell, Susan Stewart, Karen Alden, Chrissie Lavin, Deb Smith, and Matt Ragone. Special thanks to Ally Weingast who spent COUNTLESS hours implementing this new appropriations process and ensuring that our Langley staff and students received all this much need equipment!!!! The success of this new program would not have been possible without her dedication.

THON thanks

The leadership class would like to thank everyone who supported this year's THON. The event was a huge success. Many students and community members attended the dance, and we raised over $16,000 for The Joe Cassella Foundation! We could not have done it without the overwhelming community support we received. Thank you!!

staff appreciation

Please help us to say "THANK YOU" to our teachers and support staff with gift cards for our Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon on Fri, May 10. We are asking Langley families to consider donating one or more $15, $20, or $25 gift cards or if preferred cash or check in any denomination. Checks should be made out to "Langley PTSA." Mark your envelope "Staff Appreciation," and have your student drop it off at the Main Office by Fri, May 3. Some gift card suggestions are Starbucks, Target, Gas cards, Amazon. Thank you in advance for your support of Langley's faculty and staff!

stress workshop

The 2013 Preventions Conference organized by the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County is coming up Sat, Apr 13 from 8:15am-1:30pm at Falls Church HS, and we hope you will attend and help spread the word about this event. Although geared to middle-school students and their parents, the conference is open to any adult in the community looking for ways to help our youth learn healthy alternatives to stress, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

If you have any questions and want to get involved, please contact us. Spanish and Korean translators will be available for two of the adult workshops. Additional translators are available upon request.

Keynote speaker for adults will be noted neuro-psychologist William Stixrud Ph.D., who will talk about stress and understanding the teen brain. The conference will include fun, hands-on workshops for students on positive activities from music to martial arts. The conference also will feature an Ideas and Resource Fair, and community organizations and businesses are invited to join as sponsors and exhibitors. Click here on this registration site to go to sign up.

 help needed

The PTSA Family Network Committee is looking for volunteers to help with the spring Alcohol Awareness Program on Apr 18 and 19. Volunteer slots are from 7-11am and 11-2:15 pm. All juniors and seniors will get a chance to experience some effects of impairment by wearing impaired-vision goggles and performing simple and complex tasks. We did this two years ago, and it was a big success. This is a fun opportunity to interact with the students while helping them understand the very real dangers of underage drinking. Questions and RSVP, please contact Betsy Shomaker at <shomaker.jb@verizon.net>.
