presidents' message: round 2
| | ptsa appropriations: The PTSA and LHS faculty are busy at work on the Second Round of Appropriations set for January 2103. The current requests include these technology requests: Mobile laptop carts--Library, 3 SmartBoards--Science, 2 SmartBoards--World Languages, 1 SmartBoard--Humanities, Touch Screen monitors--World Languages, LabQuest2 equipment--Physics, Cameras, Printers, and iPads--Fine Arts, and 1 iPad--Athletics.
These requests total in excess of $50,000. We have reserved approximately $20,000 from your generous donations in the fall to help fund these requests. We hate to say, "No," for these requests.
As we approach the end of the year, please remember the Langley PTSA in your 2012 charitable contributions. Know this--every penny of a donation made to the PTSA helps fund these requests. If you would like additional information, contact Ally Weingast, Appropriations Chair, <ptsalangley@gmail.com>.

dept news: blackout bullying & career assessment
| |
blackout bullying week: The Students Services Department will be promoting Blackout Bullying week Dec 10-14. The purpose of this week is to call attention to the very serious and present issue that exists within the walls of our school and online and greatly affects many individuals. Students will be informed of ways to support themselves and others who may be involved in these situations. The week will include Saxon Time sessions for sophomores and juniors who will watch an impacting video and participate in discussions.
All students will have the opportunity to sign the blackout bullying pledge during lunch on Thursday and Friday and receive a "Blackout Bullying" bracelet to wear in support of the cause. For parents who want more info, check this article from the National Association of School Psychologist:
http://www.nasponline.org/resources/bullying/Bullying_Primer.pdf.
career assessment: During December, all students in grade 9 and 10 will spend time in the Career Center. Students in grade 9 will be introduced to the Career Center resources, assess their learning styles by completing the Learning Styles inventory on Family Connections, and determine a timeline for post secondary planning. Students in grade 10 will also receive an introduction to Career Center resources, complete the "Do What You Are" personality inventory on Family Connections, and consider what a sophomore needs to know now about post secondary planning.
