langley news:  parent conferences & start times
conferences: On Fri, Nov 16, Langley will start classes at 10:20am because of parent-teacher conferences called Touching Bases, which will be in the Langley Main Gym and Cafeteria from 7:30-9:30am. Most teachers will be in the gym around tables in alphabetical order. Parents line up in front of their child's teacher, and each parent gets 3 minutes to discuss with the teacher. Parents need to know their child's teacher's names (a few have the same last name) and might want to bring a notepad to take notes. While 3 minutes doesn't sound like a lot of time, parents will be amazed all that can be discussed during this time--you won't want to miss this!

thanksgiving schedule:  On Wed, Nov 21, classes will begin at 7:20am and end at 12:10pm (and buses will correspond with these times). School holidays are Thursday and Friday.
ptsa update:  dates, thanks, & help
rescheduled coffee: The Principal/PTSA Coffee (originally scheduled for Oct 31) has been rescheduled to Wed, Nov 7 at 9:15am in the Library. Topics will include the current status of the PTSA fundraiser, valuable information for the upcoming Touching Bases, and more. Mark your calendars with our new date!

book club: The fall LHS Parent-Teacher Book Club will meet Thu, Nov 8, 11:30am-12:30pm in the Principal's Conference Room (across from the Main Office). We will discuss The Langley Read, The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green. So bring your own lunch (drinks and dessert provided), and come to this informal but wonderful discussion. RSVPs to Julie Hohl <jbzhohl@verizon.net> are appreciated.

hospitality kudos: Thanks and appreciation go to the fabulous PTSA Hospitality Committee for the delicious, festive, and fun tailgate Staff Luncheon on Oct 26.

volunteers needed: Every school year, all sophomores and any student new to Langley have their vision and hearing tested during their P.E. class. This year, the screenings will be held on Thu, Nov 8, and Fri, Nov 9. Many volunteers are needed, and shifts run from approximately 7:20-10:30am and 10:30-2pmTo volunteer, please contact Tory Salzer, 703-759-9565 or <torysalzer@aol.com>.  Thank you!

new fundraising opportunity: If you have a Target REDcard, please link it to LHS (School ID:103662) so that 1% of your purchases will be sent to Langley each year. Currently, we only have 25 REDcard holders who have designated LHS, and Target's donation to Langley in August was still over $700. Just think what the donation could be if everyone in the Langley community who shopped at Target used a REDcard linked to LHS! Robinson HS has 156 cards linked and earned over $3800 last year. That is the difference in buying several new computers for Langley students. Please link your card today at target.com/tcoe! (Additional details may be found later on the Langley PTSA website.)
