homecoming spectacular

The Homecoming dance will be held in the Langley HS gym from 8-11 pm Sat, Oct 20. It will be the culminating event of homecoming week with the theme "Party in the USA." A professional entertainment company will transform the gym into a dance club! There will be a glowing DJ booth with three giant 10' video screens, four LED dance platforms, a booming four speaker, two subwoofer sound system, and four glowing columns with eight moving lights. Tickets are on sale during all lunches this week (10/9-10/12) for $15, next week (9/15-9/19) for $20, and at the door for $25. Cash and checks made out to LHS are accepted.

The practice ACT for 9th graders or the PSAT for 10th and 11th graders will be administered on Wed, Oct 17. Students should bring #2 pencils and a calculator. band: Tag Day donations now total $18,845--so close to our $20k goal. We are so grateful to the Langley community and need your help to just push us over the finish line, so the full band program can be realized. Contributions are used to repair instruments, purchase music, and hire sectional coaches. Individual donations of $50+ are recognized in concert programs. More info is at www.langleybands.org ◆ Congratulations to Langley band students Cliff Crawford, Laura Grems, and Leah Surratt, who made it into Senior Regional Orchestra! ◆ Senior Night is the next home football game on Oct 19.
orchestra: Car Wash is Sat, Oct 13, from 10 am - 2 pm at the BP gas station in downtown McLean. Congratulations to Senior Cellist Constance Chiu, who successfully auditioned for the Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra. ◆ Save the date for Oct 25 from 5-6:45 pm in the cafeteria for the Pre-Concert Asian Potluck Dinner, followed in the auditorium with the Concert, which will feature Asian music and culture. ◆ Parents with daughters new to orchestra, please contact the seamstress at 703.749.9535 to schedule the fitting and pickup of the orchestra dress.
winter sports: Team Interest Meetings are in Room 225 after school (unless otherwise noted). Meetings will cover the schedule and format for tryouts as well as information about the upcoming season. Any player interested in trying out must attend the interest meeting.

crew: Parents and students can find out everything about competitive rowing at Langley at the Information Night on Thu, Oct 18 at 7:30 pm in the Langley auditorium. community service at spooktacular: On Halloween from 5-7 pm, the LHS Community Service Club is helping with the annual Spooktacular at the Great Falls Village Centre Green. Visit the Haunted House (for kids up to 12 years old), buy burgers or hot dogs, and have professional photos taken, plus trick-or-treating is right in the heart of town. depression & teens:
FACT: Out of a typical Fairfax school of 2000 kids, 620 reported feeling significantly depressed.
FACT: 300 of these students considered suicide and 65 students attempted suicide in one year.
FACT: There is always help.

youth survey: Each school year all Fairfax County Public Schools 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students participate in the Fairfax Youth Survey. The survey will be administered at Langley Nov 13-16. (posted from KIT)
