Let the Buyer Beware!

While in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo we visited the gem market which caters mostly to tourists. The phrase to know is "let the buyer beware"! Synthetics abound and treatments were evident. Prices were through the roof regardless of natural, treated, or synthetic goods. The gemstone we saw most frequently, of all things - Blue Topaz!

Getting around in Colombo is easy if you're a local riding a motor bike. The streets are narrow in the older part of town. This is one of the jewelry streets in Colombo.

One of the primary modes of transportation is the taxi or three-wheeler, also known as a Tuk-Tuk, which are normally seen throughout Asia. Most are metered with fixed prices. Only tourists would use the unmetered with sky high prices. "Let the buyer beware"!

We'll be back in the studio on Thursday. Roger begins re-cutting sapphires on Friday.
