Fall 2013 Colors - The Leaves They Are a Changing

Many of the colors this fall are full, rich, and deep, reminiscent of the changing leaf colors: Samba red, Koi orange, and Vivacious raspberry. These colors are wonderful on their own or paired with this fall's neutrals: Turbulence and Carafe. Some of the suggested fall trend pairings include: Koi or Vivacious with Turbulence and Samba with Carafe.

The Garnet family is doing double - or triple - trend duty this fall! Almandine, Spessartite, Hessonite, Malaya, and Rhodolite Garnets reflect the fall colors Samba, Koi, and Vivacious promising to be a rather busy species this fall. Roger purchased the rough for this Garnet trio at the Namanga mine in Southern Kenya near the Tanzania border this past June. The Samba red Garnets are cut in a radiant emerald cut style.

The Rhodolite Garnet below is a Rose Cut that looks Vivacious raspberry to me. Roger sourced this rough while in Tanzania in January.

Orange has been in the spotlight since Tangerine Tango was the 2012 Color of the Year. The Fall 2013 version of orange is Koi; this Malaya Garnet has Koi orange covered. Roger purchased this rough in 2012 and faceted it as a checkerboard top "roval," an industry term referring to a gem that's a cross between a round and an oval. Below is an unusual gemstone choice falling in the Koi orange category. Sphalerite is an incredibly bright gemstone found only in Spain. Roger bought the rough for this Sphalerite in Tucson last spring. Sphalerite has incredible brilliance and dispersion, however it is best worn as a pendant due to its lack of hardness.

All of these stones, among many others, will be highlighted in our Gemstone Roundtables this fall. Click here to read more about Gemstone Roundtables.
