"Every family needs a father -- a father who shares in his family's joy and pain, hands down wisdom to his children and offers them firm guidance and love" - Pope Francis

A Prayer for Fathers
God our Father,
we give you thanks and praise
for fathers young and old.
We pray for young fathers,
newly embracing their vocation;
May they find the courage and perseverance
to balance work, family, and faith in joy and sacrifice.
We pray for our own fathers
who have supported and challenged us;
May they continue to lead in strong and gentle ways.
We remember fathers around the world
whose children are lost or suffering;
May they know that the God of compassion
walks with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers
but still mentor and guide us
with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers,
and great-grandfathers who are no longer with us
but who live forever in our memory
and nourish us with their love.
Amen.

TAKE ACTION TODAY!

For years we've asked Congress to reform federal laws on conscience rights, especially to protect individual and institutional health care providers who object to abortion-good people like Cathy Cenzon-DeCarlo, R.N., who was forced to participate in a late-term abortion against her deeply-held pro-life beliefs.
That was a major violation of her conscience rights...but she currently has no recourse to protect herself from coercion in the future!
In the next two to three weeks, we need as many Catholics as possible around the country to see this video and contact their elected representatives urging them to support the Conscience Protection Act of 2016. Please consider sharing the video on your diocesan website and/or on social media.
When sharing, please consider using the hashtag: #StandWithCathy to help gain momentum!

Joint Letter to Congress: 26 Organizations Urge Passage of Conscience Protection Act of 2016
April 19, 2016 WASHINGTON-The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) joined twenty-five other major pro-life, religious, and health care organizations on April 19 urging the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Conscience Protection Act of 2016 (H.R. 4828). Signatories include ten medical groups representing tens of thousands of health care professionals who object to abortion and are seeking legal protection to serve their patients in good conscience. "Federal laws protecting conscientious objection to abortion have been approved for decades by Congresses and Presidents of both parties. Even many 'pro-choice' Americans realize that the logic of their position requires them to respect a choice not to be involved in abortion," they wrote. "Yet it is increasingly clear that the current laws offer far less protection in practice than in theory."

Life Lived In A Petri Dish
British scientists have created a substance that mimics a mother's womb, allowing human embryos to implant on the side of a petri dish and continue their development long past the previous technological limit of seven to eight days. In short, this new technology makes it possible to grow human beings in a lab. Completely removed from the context of a nurturing family, they are cultivated solely for experimentation, often under the guise of curing common problems related to pregnancy and fetal development.
Pope Francis predicts that the technological domination of nature - and its attendant "logic of . . . exploitation" (Laudato Si' 230) - will only continue ever more hastily if humanity refuses a call to conversion. But with that conversion slow in coming, how are we to counter the logic of exploitation with what the Holy Father deemed in a July 9, 2015 homily the "logic of love?"
At the moment of conception, a unique human being comes into existence - one who possesses an innate, God-given dignity worthy of protection at all stages of his or her development. That is true whether he or she was conceived in the usual way or through technological manipulation. If coerced experimentation on adults is immoral, how much more so is experimentation on a developing human who lacks the voice to give his or her consent - or to cry out for help. It is particularly egregious to create human beings solely for the purpose of experimentation. Read More

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child,
they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply,
"No. He will be called John." But they answered her, "There is no one among your relatives who has this name."
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name,"
and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,

For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my Church,
and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven.
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." MT 16:17-19
