"The birth of every child changes the world: let every child be born for a better world"

                                                         Bishop William Murphy

Greetings,

Please continue the prayerful journey with us as we Belong More Deeply during this Year of Faith by responding to the call to Pray for Life, Marriage and Religious Liberty.  Take Action and learn more about the Top Ten Reasons to oppose the Reproductive Health Act which seeks to expand abortion in New York State and join New Yorkers 4 Life. Please also Take Action by asking congress to support H.R. 940, the Health Care Conscience Rights Act and Learn More.  Text the word "FREEDOM" to 377377  and participate in the Fortnight for Freedom, which was celebrated for the first time last year, and this year takes place from June 21-the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More-to July 4, Independence Day.

On May 9th we celebrated the Ascension of our Lord into heaven,

which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, and is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven (Luke 24:51; Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9-11).

The St.Gianna Mass offers an evening of prayer for couples struggling with infertility and recurrent miscarriage with family and friends.

On Thursday, May 16th at 6:30 p.m., The Gianna Mass will be offered at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 411 East 68th Street (between York and First Ave.), Manhattan, for the intentions of those struggling with infertility and pregnancy-related difficulties.  Time for veneration of the relics of St. Gianna will be made available.  A light wine and cheese reception will follow at which Dr. Anne Nolte from the Gianna Center and additional Creighton fertility care practitioners will be on hand to speak with anyone who is interested.  The event is open to the public and all are invited to attend.  For more information contact the Diocese of Rockville Centre Respect Life Office at 516-678-5800, ext 626 or you can REGISTER HERE

LIFE ISSUES FORUM

Kermit Gosnell and the Rest of Us

By Richard M. Doerflinger USCCB

While they ignored it for months, many national media are now finally covering the murder trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who for decades operated an abortion clinic in Philadelphia that the local district attorney calls "a house of horrors." Elective abortions performed up to the last weeks of pregnancy, by untrained and unlicensed personnel, in filthy conditions that endangered women - this is the barest outline of a 261-page grand jury report filled with horrific details.

Emergency Contraception

LOWERING the AGE LIMIT FOR SINGLE-DOSE EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION is IRRESPONSIBLE, and A DISAPPOINTMENT, SAYS BISHOPS' PRO-LIFE SPOKESPERSON

"Many studies have shown that wider access to so-called 'emergency contraception' reduces neither pregnancy nor abortion rates, but can contribute to higher rates of sexually transmitted disease, especially among young people," McQuade said, "No public health consideration justifies the unsupervised sale of such drugs to young teens."  (Read More)

"Mary, Queen of Heaven's Message of Life, Love and True Freedom"

"Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia." So begins the Regina Coeli prayer, which replaces the noon-time Angelus during the Easter season. Because the Easter season extends well into May, we are able to use this special prayer to Mary during much of the month traditionally dedicated in her honor. Marian devotion is one of the Vatican's recommendations for observing the Year of Faith. It can also be a wonderful help in pro-life efforts. (Read More)  Espaol
