"I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and who belives in me will never thirst"
John 6:35
Greetings,
Announcing the New USCCB Respect Life 2012 -2013 Program...
"Faith opens our eyes to human life in all its grandeur and beauty" |
The Respect Life Program
begins anew each year on the first Sunday in October and this year Respect Life Sunday is October 7, 2012. The program is highlighted in liturgies and marked by special events. The USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities publishes a program packet each year with materials on numerous human life issues which can be helpful for priests, parish groups and other organizations that can be found now here
If you would like to consider spending a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament for the culture of life, A Holy Hour for Life prayers can be found here. Love and sexuality are topics that touch the core of every human heart and understanding one's sexual identity and what it means to love can be difficult. The Church's teaching on these subjects is rich and full of good news. The U.S. Bishops have released three new nationwide bulletin inserts available in both English and Spanish and a webpage that offers explanations of the Church's teaching on human sexuality, married love, contraception and sterilization. Please see a list of frequently asked questions, that offer brief answers with links to source documents & additional resources. . . . more here.

BISHOPS URGE CONGRESS TO ACT ON RELIGIOUS LIBERTY CRISIS IN HEALTH CARE BEFORE YEAR'S END
Cardinal DiNardo highlights problems for religious institutions, individuals
Sees Administration policy's approach to religious freedom most grudging, arbitrary ever
Congressional action defending religious freedom long overdue
WASHINGTON-Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, chair of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities, called on Congress to address the crisis in health care sparked by the Obama administration's contraceptive/sterilization coverage mandate in an August 3 letter to members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
The mandate, which was announced a year ago by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, he said, "would forbid Americans to provide or purchase health coverage unless it includes female surgical sterilizations, all FDA-approved prescription drugs and devices for preventing pregnancy - including drugs and devices which can destroy a human life at its earliest stages - and 'counseling and education' to promote these to all women and girls of childbearing age.Click here for full letter |

The Gift of Two New Bishops
Bishop William Murphy
The Diocese of Rockville Centre has been blessed with two new auxiliary bishops. One, Robert Brennan, is a native son of Long Island, growing up in Lindenhurst, attending OLPH School, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, St. John's University and being ordained to the priesthood by Bishop McGann after his formation at our Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. The other, Nelson Perez, was born in Miami of parents who left Cuba less than a year before. He grew up with his family in Northern New Jersey, taught in a Catholic school in Puerto Rico and from there went to St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia to be ordained a priest for that Archdiocese. "Hope After a Poor Prenatal Diagnosis"
A Catholic Response
Monica Rafie and Tracy Winsor
Parents who receive news that their unborn child has a serious birth defect, genetic syndrome, or other medical
complication are often left to sort out their responses
on their own. As co-founders of the network Be Not
Afraid, for almost ten years, we have had the privilege of
supporting parents who carry their babies to term after a
poor prenatal diagnosis. BNA provides this support both
online and through the development of local services in
several communities. More
