Marie Peters

AADD Outreach Specialist

Marie Peters

Outreach Specialist Marie Peters clearly loves her job working with people living with developmental disabilities. She worked for AADD for nine years in the '80s and then took some time off to care for family. In 2010, not satisfied with her part-time job processing IRS tax returns, she called AADD to see if she could come aboard again. To her luck there was an opening and she just celebrated being with the agency for (an additional) two years on October 1st.

There weren't many dry eyes in the room when Kyle and his parents, Janis and Richard Pease accepted their award as the 2012 Legacy Honorees. Kyle's charming personality and humor had the room experiencing all sorts of emotions, from tearing up to many moments of jovial laughter. Janis and Richard stood behind him as Kyle inspired the audience with his story. Kyle's story was a testament to the trailblazing work and advocacy the family has laid out for thousands of young people with disabilities in the Atlanta community.

AADD Family Takes a Stroll to the PollPoll

An AADD family was excited to cast their ballot on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Armed with knowledge about the election process and the candidates through watching some of the presidential election coverage, teens Brittany and Aquantice, and their mother, Samantha, voted for the first time.

Brittany, 18, and Aquantice, 19, both Douglas High School students beamed with pride as they exited the voting booth. Brittany said, "My brother and I both felt really good about participating in the voting process. It made us feel good about ourselves."

All About Developmental Disabilities

Atlanta's preeminent resource on developmental disabilities, All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) has been providing support services to families for more than 55 years.  We are often the one place where people with developmental disabilities can go to achieve personal empowerment, family stability and community participation.  AADD employs a family- and community-based approach to helping families with developmental disabilities, because the impact isn't limited to just one individual. Through family support services, public policy and advocacy, and community engagement, AADD empowers families living with developmental disabilities to make informed choices and receive the necessary assistance to support those choices.  For more information, visit www.aadd.org
