This workshop provides a hands-on introduction to the SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS) data access website. The website allows users to access NDS driver demographic information, driver assessment tests, vehicle descriptive information, and trip summary data. Participants will have live access to the NDS website using their own laptop computers. Participants must have an Institutional Review Board (IRB) training certificate.


This workshop is limited to 50 registrants; therefore, participants are strongly encouraged to register in advance. 
 

  • This no-fee workshop requires separate enrollment from the TRB Annual Meeting.
  • Prerequisite: Attendees must have completed an online IRB (Institutional Review Board) certification (estimated time to complete is 20-40 minutes).
  • Attendees must bring a laptop computer.

To Enroll:
Step 1: Indicate your interest in the workshop
First visit https://survey.vt.edu/survey/entry.jsp?id=1382718653108 to indicate your interest in the workshop.  You will be asked to provide your name, affiliation, phone number, and email address.

Step 2: Complete IRB Training and obtain certification
If you already have IRB certification, proceed with step 3.
Otherwise, click the following link then click "New to PHRP Course" Registration button to create your account.  Review the Modules, complete the Quizzes, and download your certificate document.

Step 3: Register for an account on the InSight SHRP 2 NDS website
Visit https://insight.shrp2nds.us to create an account on the InSight SHRP 2 NDS website that will be used during the workshop.
1) Click the green "Register Now" button at the upper right to access the registration form. Click the Create Account button at the bottom of the form to complete your basic registration.
2) On the registration confirmation web page, click the green "Apply for Qualified Researcher" button.
3) Click the grey "Choose File" button to upload your IRB Training Certificate document that you located or obtained in Step 2.
4) Once the document is selected for upload, click the blue "Submit Application" button to continue the application process.
5) You will receive an email from InSight Admin (insight-admin@shrp2nds.us) with a subject line "Registration Confirmation" confirming your request to register. In the email, you must click on the "Complete My Registration" link (note that this is confirmation of registration for the InSight SHRP 2 NDS website . It is not TRB Annual Meeting registration or confirmation that you are enrolled in the workshop).

Step 4: Confirmation that you are enrolled in the workshop
If you have followed the instructions above and there is availability, you will receive enrollment confirmation from Suzie Lee at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (SLee@vtti.vt.edu). If attendance has reached capacity you will also be notified.

Transportation will not be provided to the Keck Center.
From the Annual Meeting hotels, Metro Red Line from the Woodley Park/ Zoo or DuPont Circle stations to the Judiciary Square station is recommended. At Judiciary Square station:
1. Use the Building Museum (F Street) exit, between Fourth and Fifth Streets N.W.
2. Turn LEFT and walk WEST on F Street N.W.
3. Cross Fifth Street N.W. and turn LEFT.
4. Walk past the fire station and the next building is 500 Fifth St. N.W. 
Check the Metro website to verify times. On Sunday Metro runs approximately every 8-14 minutes. The estimated one-way fare is $3. Estimated one-way taxi fare from Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel is $15-21; from Washington Hilton is $14-20.
