What will the reliability of the transportation system be like in the year 2030? Over the next two decades, many factors that can impact roadway travel conditions, congestion, and reliability are expected to change--for example, technology, climate, the economy, and energy--but it is hard to predict exactly what the changes will be. This brief provides an overview of two projects from SHRP 2 that are exploring innovations and possible trends that can shape the future of travel time reliability: Evaluating Alternative Operations Strategies to Improve Travel Time Reliability (SHRP 2 Reliability Project L11) and Proximity Information Resources for Special Events (SHRP 2 Reliability IDEA Project L15B).
