TRB Webinar: New Strategies for Managing Complex Projects (R10)

Greetings!

As part of the SHRP 2 Tuesdays Webinar Series, TRB will conduct a webinar on May 7, 2013, from 2:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. ET as a part of the TRB second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) report and guidebook that explores a five-dimensional approach to help manage complex transportation projects from planning through the construction phases. Register now. The goal of the five-dimensional approach is to identify issues that should be planned and managed proactively, rather than retroactively.

The five-dimensional approach was developed through the SHRP 2 Renewal Project R10. The project developed two products: 1) Project Management Strategies for Complex Projects that describes a five-dimensional project management approach for complex projects, and 2) Guidebook: Project Management Strategies for Complex Projects that is designed to help facilitate the application of the five-dimensional project management approach for complex projects.

Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual. This webinar is pending approval by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) for 1.5 Continuing Maintenance (CM) credits.

Complex transportation projects have brought about the evolution of new strategies to help managers make rational resource allocations. In this webinar, participants will learn about a five-dimensional approach to plan and manage issues proactively, rather than retroactively. The five areas of the new project management approach address cost, schedule, engineering requirements, external influences, and financing.

Webinar Panelists and Moderator:
  • Kelly Strong, Colorado State University
  • Jennifer Shane, Iowa State University
  • Latoya Johnson, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
Moderated by: Jerry DiMaggio, Transportation Research Board
