West Parlor Restoration
|
The West Parlor - The fine paneling dates from the mid-1700s, when Joseph Nye (1695-1750) occupied the house. Our current restoration effort will focus on replacing the 1920s hard pine floor with a wide white pine floor that is characteristic of the 18th century.

In this recent view, the hard pine has been removed. To our surprise, we found no early timbers - the sills, floor joists and sub-floor had been replaced, probably in the late 1920s by the Massachusetts Division of Fish and Wildlife, who owned the property at that time. About a foot of dirt will be removed after being sifted by Archaeologist, Craig Chartier. The sills and joists will be replaced with oak lumber, then a white pine floor.
