2014 K-12 ONLINE COURSE

Global Education and

21st Century Skills

April 3 - May  14, 2014

This redesigned course immerses educators from all disciplines in an exploration of global topics such as the economy, the environment, diverse populations, and the U.S.'s place in the world. Participants will discuss the importance of cultivating 21st century skills as they relate to K-12 education. Educators will gain hands-on experience with web-based resources for teaching about global issues in the classroom.

Over six weeks participants read, discuss, and reflect on the most important issues facing America and the world today.  The course introduces educators to university and other resources for continued personal and professional learning of global issues.  As a final project, each participant will present an action plan for their classroom or school to support the development of globally competitive graduates.

Four CEU credits are offered for successful completion of the course.

Duke University Asian/Pacific Studies Institute
is pleased
to announce the Artists in the Schools mini-grants for spring 2014.

As in years past, APSI will be supporting K-12 classroom visits by local artists who specialize in an East Asian tradition. All four artists have years of experience practicing their art and presenting and teaching it in the schools and the community. These visits are available free of charge to a limited number of classrooms in central North Carolina.

You are invited to apply for one of these visits as a school team. This is slightly different from previous years, and is intended to ensure that all teachers at a given school receiving a visit are planning to constructively incorporate the visit into their teaching - to expand units about East Asia and/or make cross-curricular connections.

Apply by December 31, 2013 for full consideration. For additional information and available artists available to visit classes in Spring 2014, please click here.
