Louis del Sarte's " Spirit of Harlem" wall mosaic that was commissioned in 2005 by Norfolk Bank has livened up the corner of what became Capital One (125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard) for the last 10 years. Capital One has now relocated to the adjacent corner and the storefront is currently vacant. This is a great example of how to use dead space in commercial footprints to brand 125th Street as a cultural destination.

December 2013 city officials unveiled 4 of New York City's new LED Light fixtures on 125th Street.
The process for design, acceptance and completion of new lighting fixtures is very long and tedious. We are happy to report today that:
- The contract began in January 2015.
- DOT's contractor has ordered the new lights.
- It takes 12-16 weeks to be manufactured and delivered.
- Some preliminary work will take place once the snow is gone and then in late Spring, we anticipate seeing the first of the installations of approximately 62 new lighting fixtures in our district.
The new lighting signifies investment and pride in our community!
Background Information on City Lights
An international design competition to develop a new streetlight for New York City was held in 2004. The City Light design was selected as the winning entry. DOT and DDC are developing the proposed design. (Source: NYCDOT Street Furniture Catalog)
