We Dodged A Bullet!!!


Juno was kind to 125th Street.  All sanitation crew members are on their posts clearing all crosswalks and removing garbage.  A little less than half of our businesses are open and foot traffic is slow but basically everybody is getting back to normal.

The West Side of 125th Street just keep on charging forward!!!  
 
Do you remember where you were or what you were doing when President Clinton came to 125th Street?  Can you remember how the community of Harlem came together to make it happen?  Well it appears that the great people of this beloved community are at it again.  We want the Obama Library to be here and special thanks to Columbia University for leading the charge.- Barbara Askins - 125th Street BID.
 
Columbia University Pushes for Obama Library in Harlem
 

If President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle pick one of the open parcels on Columbia's 17-acre Manhattanville site for their project, they will be locating in an iconic African-American community where the Ivy League school is in the midst of a long-term expansion. Columbia's new campus is between Broadway and 12th Avenue, from 1125th to 133rd, once home to industrial and commercial buildings. Read More


Three Universities Move Forward with major Plans for Expansion

 

#2 Columbia University Expands into Manhattanville

 

 Matthew Sparks, a senior director at Eastern Consolidated, said that the Columbia project has been uplifting the neighborhood. "It is bringing the neighborhood up substantially; investment in the neighborhood has taken off," he said. He added that the Columbia expansion is serving as an "anchor" in the neighborhood and stimulating more professionals to move north of 125th Street. Read Article
