Summer @Hancock!

Summer Music

Instrumentalists and vocalists are needed for most Sundays this summer. If you would like to provide music for worship service please contact Marilyn Becker at marilyn.becker@hancockchurch.org.

Also, our Handbells Groups will be at the Bell Festival at UMass Amherst this weekend! Wish them well in their travels, performing, and enrichment!

Summer Plans for Youth and Children

During the summer, Eliza Duncan with adult and youth volunteers will continue offering childcare for infant and toddlers along with activities for children through 3rd grade (older children are welcome as helpers.) Children are welcome and invited to stay in worship with their families and kids pew packs are available in the entry at the front of the sanctuary.

This summer we are seeking adults and families to be Family Hosts on Sunday morning.

CLICK HERE for more information on being a Family Host. Please consider signing up for one Sunday, and help welcome children and families to summer worship at Hancock. Look for the sign-up sheet in the Commons, or email Sarah Felton, sarah@manasas.com; or Sarah Kuli, sarahkuli@comcast.net, Co-Chairs of the Christian Education Committee.

Infant and Toddler Care: Childcare is provided for children ages 3 and younger in the Infant/Toddler Room with Eliza Duncan and teen helpers each Sunday beginning at 9am. Parents may pick up children after worship in the Infant/Toddler Room.

Summer Clean Up

Old Hymnals Disposal

If you'd like an old hymnal for whatever personal use, i.e., reference, paper mache, craft journal, please take one or 100. We must be free of our old hymnals by early July. Any of the boxes of hymnals in the Chapel are free for the taking. There is not much demand for large quantities of used hymnals, but If anyone knows how to re-purpose at least 100 hymnals, please contact Jane Park, jane@hancockchurch.org.

Work Room Lost & Found

Please go to the Workroom to retrieve any items in the Lost & Found. Any items left in the marked boxes will be donated to Goodwill by mid-July. Thank you for your help! -Jane Park

Thank you from Lois and Scott

Thank you to everyone who prepared and delivered meals to us during Lois' initial recovery from back surgery.  So many good cooks! The meals took away much stress during this time. Your well wishes expressed by sent cards/notes, calls, flowers, prayers and visits were very much appreciated, more than we can express.

We will be forever grateful for the generosity and kindness that we have received during this difficult time, and feel blessed to be part of the Hancock family.

May God bless you all.

Gratefully,

Lois and Scott Martin

2015 Budget: Where are we on May 31 vs. Our Approved 2015 Budget?

2015 Budget

Budgeted Annual Income              $906,222

Budgeted Annual Expenses           $955,912

Net deficit                                       (-$49,690)

Where are we on May 31st vs. our Approved 2015 Budget?

                                                                 Thru 5/31

                                                                 Vs. Approved Budget above

Income (excluding transfers)            + $70,358 ahead of plan

Expenses                                              + $10,612 over plan

The good news is that income is well above where we usually are at this time in the year, driven by pledge receipts. We believe that most of that is due to pledges that have been paid earlier than we had anticipated. Thank you to everyone who has been faithful in their pledging and support of Hancock.

Some have asked what it would take to cover our annual budgeted expenses. We are tracking that, and are adjusting the numbers to incorporate the seasonality of how revenue is received.  In May we reported that to be on track to cover expenses our target was to collect $55.4K. We ended up collecting $57.5K. Cumulatively through 5/31, on a seasonally adjusted basis, we are $52.1K ahead. In June, the target would be to collect $48.7K.

There is significant variability in the timing of revenue, with almost 40% of revenue usually collected in 4th Quarter. Therefore, while we are happy to report that we are ahead of plan currently, it still does not change our outlook for the deficit. It does means, however, that we are in a more comfortable financial position leading into summer when donations fall off significantly.

Hancock does not receive any denominational financial support. Financial contributions from members and friends are essential for the continuing operation of the church. Thank you.

Becca Lockwood Called to St. Peter's in Carmel, Indiana!

On July 14, Becca was formally called by St. Peter's in Carmel, Indiana to serve as their next settled Associate Minister! By the grace of God, Becca will not be the only former Hancock Seminarian serving at St. Peter's. Current Senior Pastor, Lori Bievenour, is also a former Hancock seminarian. Lori, then using her maiden name Godich, served Hancock a little over ten years ago before graduating from Boston University School of Theology in 2003. Isn't God's Grace amazing? Becca begins at St. Peter's on July 6, 2015. You can send Becca a note of congratulations at lockwoodhrl@gmail.com
