Mark Morgan Paternity and Sabbatical Leave
My wife, Amy, and I are pleased to announce that we will soon be welcoming a new little boy into our family! His name is Hugh, and he is a beautiful 18 month old living in an orphanage in Shanxi province in China. We have embarked on this adoption proceeding for the past 18 months or so, working with an agency that places children with special needs. Hugh was born with cleft lip and palate, which is easily repaired here. Owen is greatly looking forward to having a little brother! We will be traveling to China for two weeks at the end of June to bring him home. I will be out on paternity leave during that time.

Upon our arrival home, I will be taking all of my vacation time, and will also embark on my sabbatical time. Under the provisions of my contract, and in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the American Guild of Organists for sacred music musicians, I have a 6 week sabbatical every six years here at Hancock. I have not yet firmed up my plans for this time (for obvious reasons!) but expect it to include a great deal of practicing, study, and composing. As a result of these three things, I will be on leave from Hancock starting June 24th and will be returning to Sunday worship on Celebration Sunday, September 20th. Marilyn Becker will be ably filling the gaps over the summer and through the first few weeks of the fall. I would like to thank the Hancock community for this time away and I look forward to coming back, sharing stories, introducing the new kiddo, and getting back to work!

Gratefully,
Mark Morgan

News and Updates
The Inaugural "First Friday Fellowship" was a great success!
12 adults and youth joined Alex in our new kitchen last Friday at 6:00 PM for an evening of cooking, eating, and laughing. We prepared a large pot of chicken noodle soup and even made a couple dozen homemade cookies. After we finished our meal together, we froze a dozen quarts of soup for members and friends of the congregation who might need a meal in the future. If you're interested in this wonderful ministry opportunity, join us for the first Friday in June - June 5 - at 6:00 PM. We're still deciding on what to cook! All are welcome.

Women's Retreat at Friendly Crossways

Twenty women enjoyed the Spring weather and fellowship at Friendly Crossways Retreat Center in Harvard last weekend on Hancock's 9th Annual Women's Retreat. The overnight was sponsored by the Adult Education Committee.

Dana Home Foundation funds "Hancock Talks" for 2015-2016

Over the past few months, Acting Minister Alex Will has been preparing a grant proposal for the Dana Home Foundation -  a Lexington based organization dedicated to providing for the care, comfort and well being of senior citizens. Alex received word on Monday that the Dana Home Foundation has once again agreed to fund a Hancock initiative, a program Alex named "Hancock Talks: Conversations Concerning Seniors." The program will combine our previous efforts to bring in guest speakers and our successful television ministry program, to facilitate, film, and produce 30-60 minute conversations with professionals and/or panelists addressing topics of interest to seniors of Lexington and their caregivers. We think this will be a wonderful opportunity to support our seniors and their caregivers, and to extend Hancock's ministry into our community. Keep an eye out for more information as this program unfolds!

Introducing Our New Student Minister David Clark!

Starting this coming Fall, David Clark will be our new Student Minister and Director of Faith Formation. He'll be working with our youth and young families. Here's a little introduction:

David is a native of the beautiful state of Maine and has just completed his first year at Andover Newton Theological School. He is a third generation MDiv on his father's side and is excited to pursue a life in ministry. His spiritual life began as a child at the UCC summer camp, Pilgrim Lodge where he counseled, volunteered, and for the past four years served as the assistant director. He's worked in residential student life at his alma mater the University of South Maine, as a youth counselor with Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, and taught in many environments such as churches, adult eds, and at the college level. He's thrilled to be a newly accepted member to the Hancock team and cannot wait to begin in the fall.

Be sure to look for upcoming announcements to help out. Necomers are always welcome. No prior experience is required. The garden is adjacent to First Parish Church, where parking is available.

May 12, Join the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization for an Affordable Housing Event

Greater Boston Interfaith Organization is a multi-racial, interfaith, non partisan group that works directly with public officials to influence public policy. May 12th will be a pivotal moment for people of faith in Boston. GBIO has an opportunity that night to show to a new governor, a new mayor, and a new attorney general that people of faith in Greater Boston have a strong public voice.  GBIO has committed to bringing 1500 people to the event.

Plus, the event is going to be super fun! There will be music, and a very diverse range of people from all over Greater Boston. The evening is going to be electric, 1500 people in a room with the most powerful people in the state, not so that we can listen to what they have to say, but so they can listen to what the people have to say. It's how democracy is supposed to be! Plus, these kinds of events only come around once every few years, so you don't want to miss it!

June 13, March with Hancock in the 2015 Boston Pride Parade
Last year, Hancock had 12 marchers for this joyous and faithful event - this was the most we've ever had! While 12 is a great number, a church of our size is capable of sending so many more! Will you help us break our record this year by signing up to march? Alex Shea Will and Sarah Keeping will be leading our group this year. Can I march if I'm straight? It is family friendly? What will we do during the march? Head on over to our webpage to read the answers to these questions and to let us know that you're interested.
