Offices Closed on MLK Day

The Administrative Offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Day.
Workroom Mailboxes
and Directory Updates

There are alphabetical mailboxes in the Workroom for the convenience of the congregation. Please make sure to email or call the name on the mail before leaving it in these boxes. Otherwise, please leave the mail on the desk for the Administrative Offices to sort.

I'm hoping to clean up the Directory as much as possible. I'll have 50 copies of the most up-to-date directory in the narthex. If your address is incorrect, or you notice anything else that is wrong, please email jane@hancockchurch.org with your correction.

Thank you, Jane Park

Sunday, Jan. 18, 3pm
Mark Morgan and Jean Danton

With the new season of hugely popular series Downton Abbey now underway, what better time to enjoy an afternoon of music as heard by Lord Grantham, Lady Mary, and the Matthew Crawley?

Soprano Jean Danton, baritone Mark Morgan, and pianist Linda Papatopoli will present vocal and piano music featured on the show and from the era. Included will be popular songs, opera, operetta, ragtime, and early Jazz. You'll be drawn into the world of the Grantham's with songs like If You Were the Only Girl in the World, O mio babbino caro, I Love a Piano, and many more. A complimentary English tea will follow.

EDUCATION AND FELLOWSHIP

Pastor's Class
Sundays, 8:30am in Kathie Stuart

Our current focus is Bible Study, led by Paul Shupe. Each week we discuss the scripture to be used in that day's sermon. Participants are especially interested in getting the inside track on the message of each sermon before it happens.

"It is fascinating for us to examine and interpret each week's scripture before the service, and then to discover how the sermon might reflect our discussion," says one participant. All are welcome to come and learn more about the scriptures and how they are still teaching us about our faith. Come on a drop-in basis, no regular attendance required, and no homework!

Nominating Committee Introduces Adult Education Committee and Parish Life

Over the next few weeks, the Nominating Committee will be introducing the various committees of the church. Please, as your read these notes, consider which committees you might gift with your participation.

When Jesus was baptized by John, he became a member of the community that had formed around John. When we are baptized, we join a long line of brothers and sisters who were baptized by other brothers and sisters who were baptized by other brothers and sisters all the way back to John. In a sense, Jesus is our brother in this community. Read more here.

When you have made your selections or if you want more information, please call or email one of us on the Nominating Committee so that we will know your wishes.

Desperately Seeking Sopranos!

Our Chancel Choir keeps growing and growing, but we are in sore need of more sopranos to join our swelling ranks! The choir sings literature from the medieval to today, from chant to Bach to gospel, and everything in between! We rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7:30 in the Chapel and sing most Sunday mornings from September-June. Everyone high school age and older is welcome to join. We have members with wildly varying backgrounds--from those who sing each week with several choirs, to those that haven't sung since high school--all are welcome! Singers need not be church members--invite a friend to join you! Please contact Mark Morgan, Director of Music at mark@hancockchurch.org or simply come by on a Thursday night.
