Submission Guidelines

The Hancock Weekly is distributed every Wednesday, around noon. The submission deadline is that same Wednesday at 9am. Please send them to Jane Park, jane@hancockchurch.org.

Submissions for the Sunday Bulletin are due the Wednesday prior, as well. Submissions to the Sunday Bulletin should be sent to Krystal Neale, krystal@hancockchurch.org.

Children's Program
Every Sunday at 10:20 a.m.

Theme: Praying with Jesus
"Discovering the elements of the Lord's prayer and exploring the practice of prayer in our lives!"

Children PreK-5th Grade are invited to our "Come Join the Circle" program on Sunday Mornings in the newly renovated education wing. Children begin in worship with their families at 10am, after the "children's message" they proceed to the Education Wing for Chapel Time and activity centers. Childcare is provided from 9am-11am in the Infant Toddler Room with Eliza Duncan and teens helpers.

All Age Event for children in Clark Hall. A World Wide Open Table: children will explore the communion themes of remembering celebrating and giving thanks for God's love in the world.

Hancock's Junior Youth Organization (JYO) offers discussion, fellowship, and mission projects for middleschool youth.  JYO youth also begin in worship at 10:00am and then head to the Upper Room for dialogue and activities 'til 11:00am

The Stewardship, Welcoming, and Christian Education Committees welcome you to the CE Commons after worship on October 26th! Are you newer to Hancock and seeking to expand your knowledge and connections with the church community? Are you planning to pick a child up from church school or JYO after worship? Why not stay for snacks?

Please join us after worship for refreshments, all-ages activities and conversation with other Hancock families in an intimate, kid-scale space. HANCOCK CONCERT SERIES 

The Great War at 100:  
Great Britain in Song and Verse
Sunday, November 9, 2pm

Our new season kicks off with a powerful and moving remembrance of the 1st world war on this, the 100th anniversary of its beginning. Performed in conjunction with Veteran's (Armistice Day), the program includes the direct experience of the War through the poetry of Wilfred Owens, and the refracted experience of the War through the works of Herbert Howells, Ivor Gurney, Gerald Finzi, George Butterworth, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Seasonal music for voices and instruments from medieval to contemporary, with a focus on floral imagery and legends.  The centerpiece of the concert will be Caldara's delightful Christmas cantata Amarilli vezzosa. Directed by Martins Aldins.

An introduction to the principles and concepts behind Centering Prayer, and hands-on experience of the method, are both part of this new fall series.

Harvest Potluck Supper

Come and celebrate the season with our Harvest Pot Luck Supper. This is a wonderful way to meet new friends and connect with old friends.

The 30+ pounds harvested last Saturday brings the season's total to 1,991 pounds so far this year, well above our prior best of 1,637. The good weather, crop rotation and care under the tutelage of Carla has made for a remarkable year. Thanks to all the volunteers who make this project so successful.

Heifer International
70th Anniversary Event!
November 2, 2-4pm in Clark Hall

Kids visit a goat at Heifer Farm in Rutland.

In recognition of this milestone anniversary, Heifer International is choosing to demonstrate support for family farmers around the world with the "Beyond Hunger: Communities of Change" public event series held across the U.S. in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston (Actually here at Hancock! -jp), Sacramento, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta, among other cities.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Free Voice Lesson!
Have you been interested in singing in the choir, for our cantatas, or for the Well but just aren't sure about your voice? Our Director of Music, Mark Morgan, is offering a free 30 minute voice lesson to anyone interested.

We'll go over some basics, give you a few exercises to do do on your own, and talk about opportunities in our programs for you. No strings, no expectations! Just a chance for you to get to know your voice a little better.

Mark has a long history teaching voice and has served in the past on the voice faculties of both Boston College and Eastern Nazarene College. He can be reached at (781) 862-4220 or by e-mail at mark@hancockchurch.org. Open to anyone grade 9-adult.

Remembrances
Hancock was saddened by the death of Faith Armington, who died on Sunday at The Huntington in Nashua. Faith was a fifty year member of Hancock and was beloved by many. Memorial service plans are still being made; details will be shared as we have them. Meanwhile we remember Faith and her family and friends in our prayers.
