STEWARDSHIP 2015

Rejoice in God's Gifts by Giving & Growing in Community for 2015!

"As each has received a gift,

use it to serve one another,

as good stewards of God's varied grace."

I Peter 4:10-11 (ESV Bible)

Sunday, Oct. 19, is the official kick-off of Hancock's 2015 stewardship campaign! We have selected the theme of Giving & Growing in Community to capture our hopes for this time of reflection, prayer and celebration of all that we have been given, and the joy we receive when we give back.

Please join us on Oct. 19 at morning and evening worship to learn about the goals of this year's campaign, what's different this year, and why. Look forward to more information over the next several weeks about how you can join generations of Hancock members and friends who have pledged their time, talents, and treasure to sustain the church home that now nurtures us.

Meditation & Centering Prayer
Beginning Wednesday Oct. 29, 7PM in Clark Hall

Talk & new series of workshops with Stan Goldin PhD., Harvard Medical School/Cognitive Rhythms Collaborative

There is growing interest in appreciating and directly experiencing the benefits of regular meditation. The Christian contemplative tradition adds another dimension of benefit to those of secular mindfulness meditation-the chance to experience and deepen our relationship with a Divine Presence that we call God.  An introduction to the principles and concepts behind Centering Prayer, and hands-on experience of the method, are both part of this new fall series.

Pastor's Class
Sundays, 8:30am in Pearson

Hi Everybody! The Fall section of the Pastor's Class has begun and is in full swing! Paul will lead us every Sunday morning before church from 8:30-9:30am in the Pearson Room. Usually we have an extended discussion of the scripture section chosen for that Sunday's sermon, its historical and theological background, our own questions and modern understanding. All are welcome -- all sections are stand-aone events, so even if you missed one, you can jump in the next time! No homework, no tests, and no grades! We hope to see you next Sunday.

Did You Miss
Congregational Care Sunday?

On September 28th, we had Congregational Care Sunday during Sunday morning worship. As we celebrated our ministries of care, we also challenged ourselves to think about how God might be calling us to care for one another in new ways. If you missed this service, head over to our new Congregational Care web page! You can listen to Alex's sermon and fill out a short survey about how you'd like to (or already do) care for our community.
Elevator Installation Has Begun!
Photo of the elevator installers by Paul Topalian.

We are all delighted to see ThyssenKrupp (elevator installer) as they have begun installation this week. It should be about 6 weeks for the install.  After elevator inspections and completion of the stairs, the contractor will finish the front lobby and the front offices.  We hope to have most of our construction finished by the end of the year.  The kitchen is close to completion, and after a few more items are finished we can get the kitchen inspected by the building inspector, the fire department and the health department.  It looks really nice and is sure to be a welcomed site.  The bathrooms have been completed and are ready for use on both the 1st and 2nd floors as they were available this past weekend for a wedding. The dining room heat installation is in progress this week and should be completed soon. Thank you!
