Lexington Food Pantry 
April is 15-16oz cans of hashes, chilis, and stews  

   


The Lexington Food Pantry could really use canned chili this month. Donation containers are located all around the church. Hancock has a long history of supporting the Pantry with food donations, monetary assistance and the most important: volunteers.

EASTER CELEBRATIONS

 

5:45am Easter Sunrise at the Old Belfry 

Gather outside for a simple service of singing, scripture, and sharing the names of loved ones who have died. 

 

9am & 11am Morning Worship

 

A traditional Easter Celebration through word and music. The Chancel Choir is joined by brass quartet and timpani for a
festive morning of music including our annual singing of the Hallelujah Chorus.

 

Both Easter Services will be

Due to complicating factors related to Patriot's Day activities on Battle Green, the staff has decided to forgo evening Worship @the Well on Easter. Travel and parking on Massachusetts Avenue will be compromised on Sunday evening; in addition to Easter weekend marks the beginning of spring vacation week.

Rev. Dana Allen Walsh has been called as the next Senior Minister of South Church in Andover, MA. The official letters of Dana's Departure from Dana, Paul, and the moderators are available online. After Dana Allen Walsh departs for her new call on June 1st, we'll be entering an interim period of perhaps 9-15 months as we conduct a national search for our new Minister. Just to clear up any confusion, we've created a schedule of Interim Plans and Ministerial Duties. Please contact Paul or Dana (or anyone on staff) if you have any concerns, feedback, or insight.

The Gifts of Imperfection
Women's Retreat led by Dana Allen Walsh

Our Women's Retreat is almost here! Our theme this year is "The Gifts of Imperfection: Living an Authentic Life." During our time together we will explore what it looks like to live authentic lives, wholly loved by God. There will be plenty of time to walk the beautiful gardens and paths of Adelynrood and explore the labyrinth. This retreat is for you, come and use your time however you need it most.

Informational Dinner on May 4th

Want to get a chance to meet some people and learn more about Hancock Church? The Welcoming Committee is hosting a dinner on Sunday, May 4 to give you a chance to meet some members and clergy and ask any questions that you have. The dinner is between 4:45-6:00 at Christine McEwan's house at 1436 Mass Ave in Lexington.

HELP WANTED 


This year, as in the past, Harriet Chmela and Faith Fenske will walk the 20 miles on Good Friday, raising money for food cooperatives, day care centers, scholarships, and other needs of the children of poverty. Faith and Harriet will be happy to take pledges of support at coffee hour up to Good Friday. Go here for more details

2 or 3 Volunteers Needed to help with Easter Lilies in the Sanctuary
Easter liliesWe need a few hands to help beautify our sanctuary with the lilies for Easter day. If you might be able to donate some time on Saturday, April 19 from 12-3pm, please speak to Alex Shea Will or email alex@hancockchurch.org.

If you'd like to deliver an Easter Lily to a beloved member of our congregation who can't come to worship any more, please email Jane Woit janewoit@gmail.com.
Interfaith Garden's Fresh Idea

 

Partnerships come in all shapes and sizes, including Interfaith Garden and LexFarm-early-season partners this year! Using a coordinated April-mid-May delivery schedule, LexFarm Manager Erinn Roberts will supply Interfaith gardeners with a steady flow of vegetable seedlings, ready to go into the ground. 

 

Next month, Hancock volunteers return to the garden on: Saturday, May 3 (8:30 to 10 am) and Tuesday, May 13 (4:30 to 6 pm). Located near Lexington Battle Green, Interfaith Garden welcomes volunteers of all ages and experience. Parking is available at First Parish Church.

Rosie's Place Casseroles and Donations
There will be no casseroles for Rosie's Place in May. This month Hancock brings them a pork roast dinner with potatoes, vegetables, and cake for Mother's Day! Regular casserole cooking will resume in June.

If you have travel toiletries or hotel shampoos that you would like to donate, feel free to leave them with the casserole pans outside of Paul's office.

Courtney Jones Ecclesiastical Council
Hancock member Courtney Jones last evening cleared one more hurdle as she works toward ordination in the United Church of Christ. Next up is an Ecclesiastical Council, a meeting of clergy and laity from the Metropolitan Boston Association, to examine her for the final time. The Council will be held on Tuesday, May 6, at 7:00 pm at Hancock. Mark your calendar to attend, and keep Courtney in your prayers.
In response to a letter to the editor...
In a recent edition of the Lexington Minuteman newspaper, a letter to the editor called into question the installation of a new electrical transformer to meet the needs of the church. Important facts can be read here

 

New Bible Study Class for HYG!
By popular request, Becca Lockwood has started a Bible Study class for HYG. They will meet Sundays at 3:30pm before Confirmation Class. This class will meet until June (when HYG activities have ended). If you would like to learn more, please contact Becca, becca@hancockchurch.org.
Calendar Day June 3rd
