Best Harvest of the Season: 129lbs of Food in one Weekend!
We had our best harvest so far this season with 129 pounds of produce going to the pantry. Half of our harvest was potatoes, cucumbers and onions. We had a record harvest of blueberries and there were still plenty more to pick by the time we had to go to the pantry. We are up to 566 pounds of produce delivered to the pantry this year so far.
We are still ahead of last year's numbers, but this same week last year we had 183 pounds of produce going to the pantry. Half of that harvest from last year was onions and cucumbers.
There's still much more to harvest! If you're interested in volunteering at the Interfaith Garden, please contact Laurel Cooley by calling (781) 835-5777 or cooley.laurel1@gmail.com. Read more at interfaithgarden.org. |

Dear Hancock Friends,
Our son Nate has completed his first week of chemotherapy treatments and now is in the midst of two weeks of rest before the next round of chemo. He seems to have weathered this first stretch, though the side effects of the chemo are unpleasant and frustrating. At this point we do not know whether progress is being made, but we continue to be hopeful.
Your messages and cards of support and caring continue to be meaningful to us, and we thank one and all for keeping Nate and our family in your thoughts and prayers.
With thanks,
Paul and MaryAnn

Dana talks about love and support during hard times
Paul returns to Hancock on Monday, August 12th. Paul and MaryAnn have been on our minds and hearts this summer as their son, Nate has begun chemotherapy treatment for testicular cancer. Here are 5 suggestions for how we can best care for Paul and MaryAnn:
1. Read the Weekly email. Whenever there is news to report, Paul will write a blurb for the Weekly email so that everyone is informed. Paul and MaryAnn have been very open with the congregation so far and they will continue to share regular updates through the Wednesday Hancock emails.
2. Talk to Dana. If this brings up emotions or memories or stories from your own life, you can share them with me. Make an appointment, and we can get coffee, go for a walk, or talk in my office. It's not unusual to want to share and process, but it's best if you speak with me or another member of the staff.
3. Avoid Giving Advice. If you've had the unfortunate experience of going through cancer treatment or helping a loved one who has, please refrain from giving advice to Paul and MaryAnn. Let's trust that they are working with a knowledgeable medical team and are getting the best care for Nate.
4. Refrain from asking "How are you?" or "Is there any news to share?" If you'd like to express your love and concern to Paul and MaryAnn, it's best to send a card or write an email so they receive your support without needing to respond in the moment. If you are talking to Paul and MaryAnn, let them bring it up, if they choose to. Hancock is not a small church and you might be the 10th person in one day asking them about Nate's treatment and how they're doing. They know you are concerned, let's give them the space they need during this time.
5. Pray. One of the greatest gifts we can offer the Shupes is to hold them in the light and love of God's care. Let us ask God for courage, stamina, and perseverance for Nate as he journeys this difficult road of chemotherapy treatment.

Building Progress Report: Asbestos Removal this week
Today we are having more asbestos abatement and removal in the walled-off construction zones and the garth/courtyard. All of this should be finished by the end of the week.
Please use the Sanctuary Doors for Sunday morning worship!
During the week, we ask that you please use the rear entrance. The lower front entrance is completely blocked off.
 | | Work being done in the Pearson Room. |
 | | Covered scaffolding in the courtyard. |
We will do our best to keep you updated through the Hancock Weekly and on our website: www.hancockchurch.org. Please look out for signs, as building access could change on a daily basis. If you have any concerns about building access during the week, please call the Church Offices at (781) 862-4220.

Lexington Food Pantry: August is 16 oz jars of peanut butter
While any non perishable foods are welcome, the Lexington Food Pantry could really use 16 ounce jars of peanut butter this month. Donation containers are located all around the church. Hancock has a long history of supporting the Pantry with food donations, monetary assistance and the most important: volunteers.
If you would like to distribute food at the pantry, please contact Scott Griffith at isb.scooter@gmail.com or 509-710-5371.
