Hancock Endowment Committee and fossil fuel divestment
At its July meeting the National Synod of the UCC voted to adopt the resolution put forward by Rev. Jim Antal, president of the Massachusetts Conference, to divest its pension funds and investments from fossil fuel companies within 5 years to address climate change concerns. Hancock's Endowment Committee has analyzed its holdings and is already acting on the resolution. At present, Hancock's Endowment portfolio has very small holdings in oil, coal mining, and other fossil fuel companies as components of some funds it owns that are tied to broad market indices. No single fossil fuel company represents more than about 0.5% of the Endowment's total investments. The Endowment portfolio does include one fund focused on the transfer, storage, and processing of mostly natural gas, which represents about 3.6% of our investments. The Endowment Committee plans to shift out of this fund entirely over the next two years. For questions or comments, please contact Jim Fenske, chair of the committee. |
Building Progress Report: Please continue to use the rear entrance
A fair amount of demo has already been done in the kitchen, front lobby, and the second floor! All temporary walls will be up by the end of the week. Meanwhile, please stay clear of any construction areas. Thank you!
Building access remains the same at this time:
Temporary walls are up, blocking off the lower front entrance. All building access will have to be through the back door, or the handicapped side entrance. Also, don't be surprised by the large dumpster near the back door! It will only be there for the summer as the construction crew needs it close-by for heavy disposal.
On Sundays, the Sanctuary doors and the handicapped side entrance will be open for morning worship.
We will do our best to keep you updated through the Hancock Weekly and on our website: www.hancockchurch.org. Please look out for signs, as building access could change on a daily basis. If you have any concerns about building access during the week, please call the Church Offices at (781) 862-4220.
