Is Your Pledge Up to Date?
As you head into summer, and all the places that the warm weather takes you, please remember that the expenses of your church continue throughout the summer months. Why not make your gifts now, while you're thinking about it? Thanks for your on-going support of the ministries of Hancock. |
Asbestos Abatement Starts Next Week! Front Lower Entrance will be closed.
Starting June 17, we will begin not using the lower front entrance due to materials abatement. Several areas will be blocked including: the front entrance, the stairs leading to the narthex, and the lower hallway from the Choir Room to the TV Studios. All effected areas will be tightly contained. The abatement should last a week. Access to the building will be changing regularly, so be on the look out for signs and updates! Thank you for your patience as we take our first steps into our building renovations! If you have any questions about building accessibility, please contact the Church Offices.
 | | This area will be inaccessible during construction. |
 | | Please note that these stairs will be blocked off, as well. |

Fire up your grill! Summer is here! Hancock Grills starts in July!
When? Every Wednesday, starting July 10 until August 28 from 6:30-8:30 pm Where? Hancock members' backyards or decks. In case of rain, these events will be cancelled. Why? For fun and fellowship! We want you to get out of your kitchens this summer and have fun eating, playing, and talking as we celebrate the warm, dry summer evenings in Lexington. How do I sign up to host? Sign up at Coffee Hour, contact the church office, or call Lisa Sandeen (781) 424-7937. Would anyone like to host on July 10? We need host families! Host Families will provide a grill, a backyard or deck, as well as beverages (ie, ice tea, lemonade, water). Parish Life will be happy to supply paper goods and condiments. Attending families bring their own meat, fish, or veggies to grill and a dessert or side dish to share! Lawn chairs or blankets are also recommended. Everyone is encouraged to RSVP the host family when possible. |

Building Renovation Update: Good news!
We have received nine bids from General Contractors interested in the Hancock renovation project. Of these, six are in line with our construction budget. These favorable bids mean that the renovations can proceed as planned. The Building Committee and Mills Whitaker Architects will interview several of these firms in the coming days. The Building Committee will then make a recommendation on the contractor selection to the Standing Committee. In addition, we have selected a contractor for the asbestos removal which must precede demolition. We anticipate that activity on all these fronts will begin in mid June.

Thanks! From the Capital Campaign
A big thank you to all who were able to pre-pay their Campaign pledge. We now have received $2.67M - that's 73% of the $3.65M pledged for the 3 year campaign. That's an incredible response and we are very grateful to all of you who have helped in any way. Our need for borrowing and the associated costs should be significantly less that we were estimating before.

Bagels & Bible
Are you looking for adult education opportunities during the summer? Would you like to learn about the history of the Bible? Would you like to participate in lively discussion? Would you like to meet some new friends? Would you like to eat pastries before morning worship service? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please join Bagels and Bibles on Sunday mornings at 9am. If you cannot make it for regular class time, please join us online at If you would like more information about our group, email Kerra Fletcher at BagelsAndBibles@outlook.com. We look forward to meeting you! For the past six months, the members of the Bagels and Bibles class have been studying Jesus' parables and the Passion of the Lord using the Scriptures as the primary focus. In almost every session, questions about the origin of the Bible have come up, so this summer we have decided to study the history of the Bible. We will use Richard Elliott Friedman's book "Who Wrote the Bible?" as a guide.

Work outdoors with the Landscaping Committee!
Do you love the outdoors, gardening, and visiting with fellow church members? If so, the landscaping committee (currently only three people) could use your help for a few hours three or four times a year. We would like to create a "go to" e-mail list of people willing to work with us to weed, edge, and trim. We would send an e-mail when we are working and if you are available, we would love your help. Many hands make light work! If you are interested or have questions contact Linda Williams @ lbwilliams@comcast.net. Thank you! |
Interfaith Garden--Want to Help?
The garden has been cleaned up from the winter, compost has been added and the first of the cool weather crops have been planted. Parsley, lettuce, beets, radishes, spinach and peas were planted to join the crops that wintered over (asparagus, strawberries and garlic). Hancock regularly joins members of 12 other churches and temples working at the garden. The produce will go to the Lexington Food Pantry. All are welcome...bring a friend, neighbor or your kids. There are plenty of times that extra help is needed...not just when Hancock is scheduled. If you are interested in working at the garden, contact Amy Swanson amy.swanson@rcn.com.
