Staff News
Cindy Johnson, our new Administrative Assistant, joins the Hancock Staff team on Monday, June 3. She replaces Jane Park, who has been promoted to Church Administrator. As you will discover, Cindy is a bright and friendly person, who brings a great many skills to our team. She has served in administrative capacities in the non-profit world, and most recently, at the First Baptist Church in Worcester, where she lives. She leaps bravely aboard even though her office is temporarily in the workroom, and the construction dust is about to fly. We are pleased to welcome her and hope you'll stop in and say hello!

Come Help Move the Choir Room!
This Thursday we will be re-locating the choir room to the chapel for the duration of construction. We need folks to help pack music, move the choir music, move the choir chairs etc. We'll meet at 7:30 in the choir room. Many hands will make it light work--and save us from running up and down the stairs too many times! |

Front Lower Entrance will be closed starting June 17
Starting June 17, we will no longer be able to use the lower front entrance. Due to constructions, several areas will be blocked including: the front entrance, the stairs leading to the narthex, and the lower hallway from the Choir Room to the TV Studios. Access to the building will change regularly, so be on the look out for signs and updates! Thank you for your patience as we take our first steps into our building renovations! If you have any questions about building accessibility, please contact the Church Offices.
 | | This area will be inaccessible during construction. |
| | Please note that these stairs will be blocked off, as well. |

Thanks! From the Capital Campaign
A big thank you to all who were able to pre-pay their Campaign pledge. We now have received $2.67M - that's 73% of the $3.65M pledged for the 3 year campaign. That's an incredible response and we are very grateful to all of you who have helped in any way. Our need for borrowing and the associated costs should be significantly less that we were estimating before.

Bagels & Bible
Please check out our blog BagelsAndBibles.wordpress.com for discussions on "Who Wrote the Bible?"
For the past six months, the members of the Bagels and Bibles class have been studying Jesus' parables and the Passion of the Lord using the Scriptures as the primary focus. In almost every session, questions about the origin of the Bible have come up, so this summer we have decided to study the history of the Bible. We will use Richard Elliott Friedman's book "Who Wrote the Bible?" as a guide.
We will spend a total of twelve weeks studying the cultures, literary forms, and authors that influenced the Old and New Testaments. We'll also learn how the ancient scrolls became the book we know today. Stop in for a single lesson or join up for the entire series.
We will extend our classroom discussions on the new blog, BagelsAndBibles.wordpress.com. New topics will be posted on Mondays while we continue to meet for conversation on Sunday mornings at 9am. If you cannot join us in person, please feel free to leave a comment on the blog. We'd love to have you participate in any way!
Join us at 9am on Sunday June 9th as we discuss chapter 4 of Richard Friedman's "Who Wrote the Bible?" Copies of the book are available in the library.
If you cannot meet us on Sundays, please join us online at BagelsAndBibles.wordpress.com. Questions? Contact Kerra Fletcher at BagelsAndBibles@outlook.com.
Questions for Chapter 4:
- What happened in 722 BC? How did it change Israelite society?
- How did the centralization of religious practice affect mealtime?
- 2 Kings 18:13-19:37, Isaiah 36-37, and 2 Chronicles 32:1-23 claims that an angel of Yahweh killed hundreds of thousands of invading Assyrians. Sennecharib, the king of Assyria, one the other hand, claims to have locked up King Hezekiah like a bird in Jerusalem. What do you think really happened?
- In 587 BC the Babylonian emperor, Nebuchadnezzar, destroyed Jerusalem. Why do you think the people fled Judah as refugees to Egypt?
- After the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 BC, how do you think future authors will describe events from the Bible?

Come for all or part of the day. Refreshments provided. Contact Prudential Committee member Susan McClements with any questions, skmcclements@gmail.com.

Interfaith Garden--Want to Help?
The garden has been cleaned up from the winter, compost has been added and the first of the cool weather crops have been planted. Parsley, lettuce, beets, radishes, spinach and peas were planted to join the crops that wintered over (asparagus, strawberries and garlic). Hancock regularly joins members of 12 other churches and temples working at the garden. The produce will go to the Lexington Food Pantry. All are welcome...bring a friend, neighbor or your kids. There are plenty of times that extra help is needed...not just when Hancock is scheduled. If you are interested in working at the garden, contact Amy Swanson amy.swanson@rcn.com.
