6:15 pm Join us this week @ the Well in Clark Hall
This week's scripture reading: John 12:1-8 Mary Anoints Jesus
Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him. Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus' feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him), said, 'Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?' (He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.) Jesus said, 'Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.' | |

Scout Sunday
Wear your uniform to church this Sunday as we support Scouting!
The Scouting program at Hancock Church is more than just an activity for our youth to learn about the outdoors. Scouting provides fun, fellowship, and training to our youth as well as youth in our community. It emphasizes honesty, self-reliance, and respect. Through a year-round program, it affects character, citizenship, and personal fitness.
We congratulate all the volunteers who are active in Scouting throughout Lexington and want to offer a special prayer and word of the thanks to the leaders of Troop 119 and Pack 137 chartered to Hancock United Church of Christ. This Year Scout Sunday at Hancock means more than ever... To date 75 members and friends of Hancock Church have signed letters expressing their support and encouragement for a change in the BSA national policy restricting gay and bisexual youth and adults from membership and leadership in the BSA. The letter will be available this Sunday for others who may wish to express their support. To find out more about Hancock's position on the BSA national policy, read Jim Weston's open letter to the congregation HERE. |

Seminarian Alex Will Is New Congregational Care Coordinator
We are pleased to announce that at the end of the current semester in May, Alex Will will become our new Congregational Care Coordinator. Alex will be continuing his preparations for ordained ministry in the United Church of Christ, and our position will enable him to grow in his understanding of pastoral care. We believe, of course, that he has every skill that we need to ensure that our current congregational care ministries continue to thrive. In the next two months, Carol Bukys and Mirjam Huizer of our Congregational Care Team will assist Senior Minister Paul Shupe in the administration of the program. Thanks to Alex, to Carol and Mirjam, and to all who do the work of caring for others within our congregation.
From Alex: "What a blessing it has been to learn about and grow with each and everyone of you over the past seven months. I'm overwhelmed with joy knowing that I get to continue my journey with all of you in this new position. I thank you for your continued support as a seminarian and look forward to transitioning into this new role as Hancock's Congregational Care Coordinator." |

June Cooper of City Mission Society leads Lenten study and reflection workshops: The City in Biblical Scripture
An invitation to personal contemplation as we discern how God calls us to work for justice and peace in the world.
Led by Rev. June Cooper, Executive Director, City Mission Society Sunday March 3rd & 10th, 11:30 a.m., Pearson Room
The first explicit mention of a city is found in Genesis 4:17. And in the final book of the Bible, the Holy City appears as the bride of God in Revelation 21. The Bible has a lot to say about the City. We will explore the Bible to understand: the positive and negative pictures of the city in scripture, how God feels about the city, what does God want for the city and its people, what did Jesus want for the city, some of the characteristics of the Cities visited in the book of Acts, and the significant of the vision for the Holy City in Revelation.
If you missed the first workshop you are still more than welcome to join us this Sunday. We recorded last week's presentation and will be posting it on the website soon. Check back for more!

Thursday morning Lenten Book Group: Help, Thanks, Wow
Explore the practice of prayer, ways to enrich your prayer time, and find your "prayer voice."
Led by Pam Cochrane, Seminarian and Director of Children's Ministries
Thursdays, 9:30 a.m., Wilson Room -- February 21, 28 and March 7, 14, 21
Jesus' disciples knew how important prayer was for Jesus and they wanted to plug into that energy source. They often asked for him to share his thoughts on prayer as we remember in the Gospel of Luke the question, "Lord, teach us to pray." Jesus answered with "The Lord's Prayer," one all Christians share in common, even though language and translations vary. What other prayers sustain you, ground you? Ann Lamont shares three simple prayers in her new book Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers. Come for as many sessions as you can as we explore the practice of prayer, ways to enrich your prayer time, and find your "prayer voice."
