News, Resources and Volunteer Opportunities
Career Fair for students is on March 2 during WEB. From 1-2:15 pm, over 20 professionals from a variety of career fields will join us to talk one on one with students about their careers.  Tables will be set up in the Atrium and the Theater and Gym hallways. Students can visit with the professionals and ask questions to get first hand information about what motivated them to choose their careers, the educational requirements, the challenges and rewards, and their daily routines. A snow cone truck will be on hand with treats for participating students.  Before this event, students will receive a listing of the participating professionals along with a list of questions that they can use as conversation starters.  To see a copy of this brochure, click here.  Parents, please encourage your students to participate! 

Registration:
 Registration for next year's class for our current 9th - 11th grade students will take place March 7 and 8 during the school day.  Registration booklets will be sent home on Thursday, March 3rd.  The new Academic Planning Guide for 2016-2017 is available on the Walton website. Waivers for next year are due April 29th.

Summer School: All options for summer courses are now available on the Walton website here.  Walton High School will again be offering face-to-face instruction for limited credit recovery courses as well as initial credit for Personal Fitness and Health.

Prom: The Walton Junior/Senior Prom is Saturday, March 12th from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the Carlos Community Center.  Details on tickets can be found here

Summer Opportunity:  Interested in Careers in the Medical or Veterinary Sciences? St George's University  in Grenada offers a 10 day med/vet summer leadership academy, from June 22 - July 1, where students get hands-on learning opportunities with med and vet school professors. For more information, click here and come to a meeting in C-176 on March 1 at 7:00 pm. Atlanta National College Fair: The Fair will take place on March 13, 2016 at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, GA.  For more information, click here: College Fair

Self Defense Classes:  On Tuesday, March 15, the PTSA is sponsoring a Self Defense and Awareness Clinic for the Walton community (students, teachers, parents, and friends) from 7-9 pm in Walton's Auxiliary Gym.  This course is offered at a reduced rate of $39 but is free of charge to WHS students who have taken on-line health classes. On Wednesday, March 16, the PTSA is sponsoring a FREE Senior Girls' Self Defense class from 1-3 pm during WEB in the Auxiliary Gym. For more information and to register, go to Self Defense.  

Test Out Option: In the 2015-16 school year, eligible students will have the opportunity to 'Test Out' of any EOC course they are taking in the fall.  In order to Test Out, a student may participate in the administration of an End-of-Course Test prior to enrolling in and taking the course.  This opportunity is available for any EOC course test a student is taking in the 2016-17 school year.  Please go to the WHS website for more information.
Foundation
On March 5th, the Walton Foundation is hosting a Dinner & Auction and we would love to see you there! The event will be held at the Holy Family Parish Center at 3401 Lower Roswell Road from 7pm - 11pm.  Come join the boot-tapping fun and support Class Size Reduction at Walton.  Be sure to don your cowboy hats and boots!  Tickets are $45.00 per person (the price includes BBQ1 dinner and 2 drinks). For Seniors
We know the importance of the upcoming election and want to give our seniors the opportunity to place their vote on
Super Tuesday, March 1st.  Seniors are excused for a two hour period, with incentive, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 to vote in the Super Tuesday election as long as the following criteria are met:
  •  Seniors must check in through PPO if they are voting and going to arrive late. The poll stations open at 7:00 a.m. Students may vote on the way to school and check in with PPO when they arrive.         
  • Students must present a note from their parent and their voter registration card to PPO when they check out.  They must present the sticker they receive for voting when they return or the following morning if they do not return on Tuesday.
Senior Picnic:  We are recruiting Senior Parents who would like to help with the Senior Picnic on April 27, 2016 from 10-12:30.  We will need help with set up, clean up and staffing the picnic.  We will be sending out a sign-up genius to include volunteers as well as drink donations. Please send an email to waltonsrpicnic@gmail.com with your name and contact information so we can include you in future communications.  We are excited for this fun day for our seniors as they prepare for their next step.  

PTSA Raider Pride Scholarship: Seniors who have won the Raider Pride Award at any time during their WHS career are eligible to apply for the Raider Pride Scholarship Award.   These $1000 Scholarships will be awarded to one Senior Boy and one Senior Girl at Honors Night by the WHS PTSA. Applications and (2) letters of recommendation should be turned in to the front office by 4:00pm on Friday, March 25.  For more information and an application, please visit the PTSA webpage: Raider Pride Scholarship. 

Self Defense Class for Senior girlsOn Wednesday, March 16, the PTSA is sponsoring a FREE Senior Girls' Self Defense class from 1-3 pm during WEB in the Auxiliary Gym.  For more information and to register, go to Self Defense.
For Juniors
Junior Parent/Student Meeting:  Preparing for the College Application Process Q&A with a College Panel on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 6:30 p.m in Walton's Main Gym. Panel will include representatives from Georgia Tech, Furman University, Georgia State University, Georgia College (GCSU), and University of Alabama.

For Juniors who would like extra help for the Spring SAT and ACT, Kaplan Test Prep will be hosting free online Cram sessions for the New SAT and ACT.  Sessions are starting Saturday, February 27th. Space is limited.  To sign up, please click here.
