Education Forum: Education funding in GA has been decreasing since 2003. The Education Reform Commission has plans to recommend that the austerity cuts from the last 12 years (which amount to over $500M in lost funding to Cobb Co and over $7.6 B statewide) be permanently calculated into future education funding formulas.  It is critical for our community to become informed and engaged in fighting against these cuts to educational funding.  Please plan to attend the Education Forum on Tuesday, November 10th, at 7 pm in Walton's Theater to become informed and learn what you can do to advocate for our children. Members of the Cobb Delegation to the Georgia General Assembly have confirmed their attendance as well as Cobb County School District Board of Education members.  For more details about potential funding cuts, please visit the Georgia Budget & Policy Institute's website.

Book Fair Teacher Event Day: The Media Center, during our Scholastic Book Fair, is hosting Teacher Event Day on Friday, Nov 13.  Event day allows teachers to browse the book fair and enjoy refreshments while selecting books for their classrooms and for themselves.  We are in need of refreshments for the teacher event day.  If you can make a donation, click here: Teacher Book Fair Event Day.  Please bring all refreshments to E Hall entrance or the office by Thursday, Nov 12th, and label them Media Center.  Any questions please contact archana301@yahoo.com. Thank you for your generous donations.

Robotics GirlsFirst Workshop:
The Walton Robotics Team is hosting a Girls FIRST event on Saturday, November 14th from 9 am to 4 pm. Participating girls will have an opportunity to solve complex engineering problems, ask professionals questions, and learn to drive robots built by the Walton Robotics team. A new and improved "Outreach in a Box 2.0" will also be presented. During the event, participants will have a chance to develop new strategies to empower girls in STEM and to discuss the barriers to girls in STEM. Additionally, girls will be able to meet other students with similar interests and learn from other girls who attend the event. If you are a girl in high school, attend this event and experience a day filled with numerous opportunities, food, and fun! Sign up on our website waltonrobotics.org by November 9th.

Volunteers Needed: There are still some slots open to volunteer for sales shifts at the Scholastic Book Fair in the Media Center Nov 12-20.

Join our team of Walton Career Coaches! As a Walton Career Coach, you will have the opportunity to help mentor Walton students as they begin exploring their future careers. You can decide how much time you would be able to give and how you would like to participate in the program.  You could exchange emails with interested students, conduct informational interviews, or invite students to shadow you at work for a few hours to experience your job first hand. We are very excited about what these interactions can provide for our students as they begin determining their college and career goals and to make this happen, we need your help! If you can join this group of Walton Career Coaches and help to encourage, educate and inspire our promising Walton students, click Walton Career Coach.

From the Nurse
The Clinic has a very basic wheelchair that is available on a first come, first serve basis available for an injured student requiring a wheelchair for a period of time while at school.  Please discuss this with your MD so that you are able to obtain the appropriate wheelchair for your child. Students are welcome to leave their wheelchair behind the parent volunteer desk, near the couches. Please tag the wheelchairs/crutches with their name. Please do not hesitate to call/email if you have any questions about this.  My number is 770-578-3225, ext 242.
