Message from Principal McNeill

Parents,
Please see the attached information from the PTSA and the Foundation regarding the future of educational funding.  As your principal, I encourage you to become informed about the status of our funding and the changes being proposed by the Education Reform Commission.  Please join me at the Education Forum on November 10th at 7:00 pm in Walton's theater.  I hope to see you there.
Thank you,
Judith McNeill

From Walton's Foundation and PTSA

The Education Reform Commission (ERC), created and appointed by Governor Deal, has been meeting all year to set a new course for education in Georgia. In the next two months, the ERC will make their recommendations to Governor Deal regarding the direction of education in Georgia.

We want to make our Walton community aware of these proposals.  Please take the time to read the one page document created by the Georgia PTA here: ERC update.  It highlights the drastic decrease in funding for education, the removal of financial incentives for many educators and the significant increase in class sizes, including:
  • 55% for kindergarten
  • 37% for grades 1 - 3
  • 45% for grades 6 - 8
  • 10% for grades 9 - 12
  • 133% for gifted classes
Information can also be found in the attached article from the Sunday edition of the Marietta Daily Journal: MDJ

Most importantly, please join the Foundation and PTSA on November 10 at 7:00 pm in Walton's Theater as we hold an Education Forum to discuss the funding of education, the proposed changes, and how these recommendations will directly affect your family, our community, and the future of education in Georgia.  Members of the Cobb Delegation to the Georgia General Assembly have confirmed their attendance as well as Cobb County School District Board of Education members. This will be a great opportunity for our Walton families and we hope you can join us.
