Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Form your teams of 1-4 students and enter the Pumpkin Decorating Contest during WEB on October 28th at 1:00 in the Commons. We will supply pumpkins and supplies and snacks. Prizes will be awarded! If your group would like to participate, please send an email with the names of your group members to waltonpresident@gmail.com.
Registration information: Students will receive their spring course selections on Monday, November 1. During lunch periods, students will have the opportunity to alter one semester elective class only. Academic teachers will verify or make any necessary level change recommendations. Waivers for spring semester are due by November 13th.
Volunteers Needed: The Media Center is holding its Scholastic Book Fair on Nov 12-20. Please volunteer for a sales shift during lunches. To sign up click here. Any questions please contact Archana Patel at archana301@yahoo.com.
Letter Jacket Fitting: Fittings will take place on Thursday October 29th from 3:25 pm - 4:00 pm at the Field House. The delivery date will be December 15th. Order forms are available in the front office.
Spanish Supply Teacher Needed: Walton High School is currently seeking a supply Spanish teacher for 12 weeks starting in late October. The applicant must be a college graduate with a working knowledge in Spanish but does not need a teaching certificate. If you are interested or know someone who may be, please ask them to contact world language department chair, Christina Diaz, at Christina.diaz@cobbk12.org.
Self Defense Classes: On Wednesday, November 11, the PTSA is sponsoring two self-defense and awareness clinics. One for the Walton Community which is open to students, teachers, parents, and friends from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Dickerson middle school for a reduced rate of $39 per person. WHS students who have taken on-line health classes may take this course free of charge. The second class is a FREE Senior Girls' Self Defense class from 1:00 - 3:00 pm during WEB on 11/11 in the Auxiliary Gym. Steven Spivey of Max Defense believes anyone can learn to use the "great equalizers: adrenaline and fear," to successfully defend themselves against a stronger opponent. Washington DC trip: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are you interested in going to Washington DC? Walton High School will be taking students to DC through the Close Up organization from January 17th-22nd. Students will have an opportunity to meet and room with other students from across the country. The trip includes a chance to meet with our Senators and Congressman and/or their staff, a private tour of the capital, a night at the theater, generally sightseeing, a tour of Georgetown University, and workshops such as engaging in a debate between a liberal and conservative. The cost of the trip is $1,787.00 and includes airfare, a reputable hotel, 3 meals a day, transportation fees while in DC, and entrance to all venues. This experience helps students grow socially and academically all while making friends to last a lifetime. Please come see Ms. Merlin in G104 for more information. The deadline is approaching.
Summer Enrichment Trip: St. George's University Med/Vet Summer Leadership Academy offers the opportunity of a lifetime for high school students (age 15-17) interested in the field of medicine or veterinary medicine on a campus that covers the beautiful True Blue peninsula overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Financial Aid Night: The Walton Counseling Department will host a financial aid night for parents of seniors. Mark your calendar for Monday, November 2nd at 6:30pm in the theater at Dodgen Middle School. A representative from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will provide information on scholarships, grants, loans, work study and the HOPE program. Please join us for this informative evening.

For Parents of Juniors: Walton's Senior Evening of Inspiration is a wonderful relaxed event planned entirely by the seniors. They choose the emcees, the speakers and the entertainment. Senior parents keep the kids on schedule and help with logistics. We would love to have a few junior parents shadow this years co-chairs and take the lead next year! Parents of all 9th grade students: During the spring semester of 9th grade, your child will experience the world of Shakespeare's drama and language. All 9th grade English classes will read the classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. In order to enhance your student's understanding of the play, we have an opportunity to take students to see a matinee performance on February 24, 2016. The performance is produced by the highly respected Atlanta Shakespeare Company at the Shakespeare Tavern playhouse in Atlanta at 499 Peachtree Street, NE.If you would like to reserve a spot for your student at the matinee performance, please send in payment of $25 to cover the expenses and a signed permission form. Checks should be made payable to Walton High School or exact payment is required if cash. Deadline has been extended until 3:00 on 10/28. Please turn in these items to your student's English teacher. Walton HS Drama Presents its Fall Musical: Kiss Me, Kate! Performances are 11/5 at 7pm; 11/7 at 2pm & 7pm; 11/8 at 2pm. Tickets are on sale NOW at waltondrama.com: $15 Reserved, $10 General. General Seating tickets will also be available at the door. The Saturday Matinee, 11/7 at 2 pm is FREE admission to current 4.0 pass holders with ID.
