For PARENTS: News, Resources and Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you PTSA volunteers! Thank you to the dedicated group of Committee Chairs, volunteers and the 2014-2015 Executive Board of Neysa Lee, Jody Buter, Tricia Nodar, Robin Perry, Jennifer Shaw, Arzu Ozyazgan, Hilary Hill and Catherine Mallanda for the many hours devoted to all of the PTSA programs, events and school support activities during this past year.  Your service has benefited the entire Walton community and your commitment is greatly appreciated! An additional thank you to Jennifer Newsome for giving her professional services to Walton again this year by creating our new PTSA logo. We appreciate all your years of creativity!

 

Looking ahead to the 2015-2016 school year: Our PTSA theme this upcoming year is Walton Strong: Building our Community. Our goal is to provide programs, opportunities, and support to enrich the experiences of our Walton community and our hope is that you will join us! Visit our new website at www.waltonptsa.org where you can help us as we go "paperless." Enter your family's information for the directory, order PTSA membership, Student Directory, and Walton Calendar and sign up to volunteer for all the events the PTSA will be hosting in 2015-2016. Once you have completed your order, you can easily check out with PayPal and pay for your items on your debit card or credit card. The PTSA will have everything ready for you to pick up at student orientation in July. Thank you for supporting all of the PTSA programs which enrich and strengthen the entire Walton community. 

 

Walton Summer Hours: The Front Office summer hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.  The records room and guidance office will be open most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please note that construction for the new building is underway!  Only the north entrance (baseball drive) will be open for traffic and only the E-parking lot (next to the stadium) will be open.  Doors at the end of G-hall will be open so visitors can access the front office.

   

Mark your calendars: Orientation for the 2015-16 school year will be held on Thursday, July 30 at the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in the Fellowship/Magnolia Rooms. Holding Orientation off campus will allow the construction crews full access to the site up until the start of the new school year.  More details will be provided in future eBlasts and the PTSA summer edition of The Raider Review that will be mailed to each household in a few weeks.

Volunteer Hours: Hours completed in the 2014-2015 school year need to be logged online by Friday, May 29.  All hours will be transferred to our new online volunteer hour recording system through Naviance.  Details will be available in August!

Summer School Registration: Registration for summer school needs to be completed on Tuesday so we can finalize the class schedule.  You can download the application from the front of the Walton webpage and bring payment to the records room.  We will have late registration on Wednesday morning.

 

Support Walton KidTalk Finalist: Senior Matt Gutierrez is one of 10 finalists for Cobb County School's KidTalk video contest.  Matt's video for Daniel Brunner's Current Issues class was selected from almost 90 entries.  Please take a moment to go to this link, KidTalk Video, to "like" his video which has been loaded to YouTube.  The videos will be presented at the CCSD Teacher Kick-Off in July, and the winning video will be announced.  Thank you for your support!

For Rising 9th graders

Welcome WHS Class of 2019! Look for the PTSA Summer edition of The Raider Review with news and important information about starting your freshman year. This newsletter will be mailed to you in July.

 

English department study group available for Animal Farm assignment: The Walton 9th grade English teachers are offering a two-hour study session for rising 9th graders. Students will review elements of the plot diagram, receive an introduction to characterization, and use this information to work on their summer reading assignment. The date for the study group is Wednesday, July 15th at Walton High School. Register for the time that best suits your schedule, either 10:00-12:00 pm or 2:00-4:00 pm (choose one). Bring the following: your copy of Animal Farm, a hard copy of the summer reading assignment, and a laptop/tablet if you are typing your assignment. To register, click here: 
Fine Arts
Art Show! Please come and support our National Art Honor Society Art Show at the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art at Kennesaw State University on June 6, 2015 from 5-7pm. This is a great opportunity to view the remarkable talents of Walton's Fine Arts department!

Reflections 2015-16: Summer is a great time to "Let Your Imagination Fly!" That is the theme for the 2015-2016 PTA Reflections Contest. You can use your summer to start working on your entry in one of the six categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. We can't wait to see where your imagination takes you!
