Attention all students and staff: Due to inclement weather and dangerous travel conditions being forecast for Monday, all Cobb County Schools and facilities will be closed Monday, February 16, 2015.  Only 260 day employees should report to work if their routes are safe.

Georgia Parent Survey:  Parents, please complete this important and quick survey: Georgia Parent Survey.   It has direct input to Walton's College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) score which is a rating computed by the Georgia Department of Education. This anonymous, statewide survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete and while specific data results will not be made public, the 24 questions are designed to correlate with the Georgia Student Health Survey and the Georgia School Personnel Survey to measure school climate issues that may have a negative impact on student achievement. The survey can be accessed via personal computers, smartphones, or I-pads.

 

Registration for 2015-2016: Registration for courses for the 2015-16 school year will take place March 2nd and 3rd.  For you and your student's planning purposes, the 2015-16 Academic Planning Guide and AP Booklet are available under the Academics tab of the website. Also, we will have an AP Night on Thursday, February 19th at 6:30 pm in the theater.  Please join us to hear about the new AP Seminar course we will be offering as well as overall benefits of AP.  We will have AP teachers available to answer your questions about individual courses.

Parents needed to distribute PROM tickets. The WHS Prom will be held on Saturday, March 7!  We need parent volunteers to help with Prom Ticket Distribution during each lunch shift (3rd, 4th, & 5th periods) from Monday, March 2-Thursday, March 5.  Please volunteer to work a shift during lunch one day by clicking here: Volunteer for Prom ticket distribution.  Thanks for your support!
   
WEB volunteers needed! Please consider donating your time for this wonderful program which allows our students to make the best use of their WEB days to spend time with their teachers in the subjects they are having difficulties with or to catch up with homework and tests.  WEBs take place usually on Wednesdays and there are 2 shifts you can work, from 12:30-3:30 or from 2:30-3:30. This is a fun job and you have a terrific opportunity to interact with students and staff. To sign up, contact Martha Stevens at mangelstevens@gmail.com or use this link: Volunteer for WEB.

 

Adult Tutors Needed for Brumby Elementary: Adult volunteers are needed to tutor Brumby students as they prepare for the GA Milestones tests - February 23rd - April 3rd.  The Brumby teachers are very appreciative of any amount of volunteer time you can give. To sign up, contact Lisa Erickson at l_ericks@yahoo.com. Executive Committee Candidates: The 2015 PTSA Nominating Committee was elected on 1/28/15 at the PTSA General Meeting to search for candidates to serve on the 2015/2016 PTSA Executive Committee (which consists of 2 Co-Presidents, 2 Vice Presidents, 1 Secretary and 1 Treasurer).  If you are interested in learning more information about the Executive Committee and/or potentially serving as one of the officers, please contact Hilary Hill at hillsinga@yahoo.com by Friday, February 20th.

Redesigned PSATThe PSAT that will be administered on October 14, 2015 will be the Redesigned PSAT, reflecting the type of questions that will be found on the Redesigned SAT in the spring of 2016.  For this Redesigned PSAT and the Redesigned SAT, the following links will be helpful:

Powder Puff Fans: Save the Date for the 26th Annual Powder Puff on Friday, April 17 at 6pm in Raider Valley! Remember to turn in your registration form if you want to be a cheerleader or coach! All forms are available in the Media Center, on various days in the Commons, or can be printed off the Media Center website.  Cheerleaders and Coach applications are due by 12:30 on Wednesday, February 18th. The player lottery takes place on 2/19 from 7:30am-8:20am. All player applications must be turned in at this time. No late applications will be accepted. Questions? Interact Club sponsors Project Mail Call: On Wednesday, February 11th, club members delivered a grocery bag and flyer to each homeroom to be used to collect items for our military personnel. Note that service personnel are particularly in need of protein items. Thanks for helping us promote and collect for this cause. 35th Annual Walton Raider Chase 5K will be held on February 21.  The race will start and end at Raider Valley. Come walk or run 3.1 miles to support the WHS Cross Country and Track & Field programs.
