JUST JUNIORS

JUNIORS Should TAKE PSAT TOO!  As of this week, many of our juniors have not registered to take the test!   The deadline to register for the 2014 PSAT is 3:00pm October 10th.     We highly recommend 11th grade students take this test for several reasons:

  • National Merit Scholarship consideration it is determined solely by the 11th grade PSAT score.
  • The PSAT is an effective and inexpensive practice for the SAT, which many juniors will be taking for the first time this spring.

  • When your child receives his or her PSAT Score Report from the College Board, you will gain personalized feedback on areas of strength and weakness, along with specific suggestions for improvement. The Score Report includes an access code to a customized on-line study plan, along with a college & career planning kit (My College Quick Start). See www.collegeboard.org for more information.

  • The PSAT will be administered during school, the morning of Wednesday, October 15th. This is a WEB day and all 9th, 10th and 11th graders will be involved in testing activities, so no class instructional time is lost. Attendance will be taken in all venues and normal incentive rules will apply!

  •  Any junior who does not register/pay for the PSAT will be assigned to take the ASVAB test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). The ASVAB is a career exploration tool for students who are interested in military service or who may be undecided on college or other post-secondary options.

To register, bring the $14 registration fee to the Records Room any time between 8:00-4:00 (cash or check made out to Walton High School)

The ASVAB helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military; a score is required prior to enlistment. Please see Ms. Rogers in Counseling for more info and to register.

2014 PSAT Information and Registration Deadline: The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 15th to 9th, 10th and 11th grades.
