The Education Budget Crisis -We Need Your Help!!

At a standing room only ECCC PTA School Budget Panel on 12/4 at East Side Elementary, we learned that we MUST communicate with our elected officials for their help to find a solution to the education budget crisis.  For an article on the 12/4/13 Panel Discussion, please see the MDJ article (http://ecccpta.us5.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=7422048a699751d9dcd8859a0&id=6c45590de7&e=cbca6897c1).

Here are  talking points for our elected officials, including our Governor, our state legislators and our Cobb County Board of Education.

* Tell the elected officials that the school budget deficit in Cobb County, and reduced education funding statewide, is a serious threat to the quality of education for our students and to the strength of our economy.
* Ask them to commit to finding a solution.
* Ask them to support increased financial funding for education and No More Austerity Cuts.*  The elected officials for Walton High School are as follows:

FACE It Cobb, in partnership with EmpowerED Georgia Action, will launch the Stop Putting Our Schools on Shoestring Budgets Campaign to spread awareness of the urgent education funding issues.  Come learn about the issues and join the launch.

 
Please mark your calendars for Walton's follow-up meeting on January 9th, 2014 at 7 pm.  We will be discussing what we can all do to highlight the importance of this issue to our public servants before the legislative session begins on January 13, 2014.
*Attention Sophomore Parents: Please Read*
The Hearing & Vision Screening for all 10th graders is complete.
There were 3 days of screening in total to allow for absences or retests.
Letters are being mailed home over the next 2 weeks to the students that did not pass the screening.Students are tested twice before a failure is given. There will be information included in the letter to schedule a professional Hearing and/or Vision exam. *Please complete the bottom portion of the letter and return it to the Clinic. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. This is a Cobb County School District policy to notify parents of screening failures.

In Memory...
It is with heavy hearts that we tell our Walton community of the death of Mr. Steve Cagle.  Mr. Cagle had a distinguished teaching career of over 30 years at Walton High School.  During that time, he touched many lives.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 12, at 2 o'clock in the chapel at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.

Textbook Collection
We will begin collecting one semester textbooks next week.  These include: Government, PE, Health, Economics, Psychology, Sociology and JAVA.  Students taking AP Government and AP Economics should keep their books - these are full-year classes.
Walton Spirit Shop Hours
The Spirit Shop will be open from 10:30-1:30 this Friday. To celebrate the holidays, everything red will be on sale.  We will also be open on Saturday, December 14th from 9:00-11:00 to provide weekend shopping time.
Staff Holiday Luncheon
Good Morning and welcome back! 

Right around the corner is the Staff Luncheon. There are still a few volunteer spots available if you haven't had a chance to sign up. Also, if you have signed up for cookies, please note that each volunteer is asked to bake and bring 3 dozen of their cookie choice. If you cannot bring 3 dozen please let me know. Questions?
