The Education Budget Crisis -You Can Make a Difference!!

Governor Deal is currently working to create his 2015 budget.  Please contact his office to let him know how the education budget cuts over the last ten years have impacted your child.

**  Governor Nathan Deal, http://gov.georgia.gov , 404-656-1776

Listed below are some talking points to assist you when speaking with Governor Deal and our other elected officials, including our state legislators and our Cobb
County Board of Education Representatives.

* Tell the elected officials the school budget deficit in Cobb County, and reduced education funding statewide, is a serious threat to the quality of education for our students and to the strength of our economy.
* Ask them to commit to finding a solution.
* Ask them to support increased financial funding for education and No More Austerity Cuts.

The elected officials for Walton High School are as follows:

The new legislative session begins on January 13, 2014.  Please plan to join us on January 9th, 2014 at 7 pm in the Walton High School theater.  We will be hearing from some of our elected officials on the current status of the budget and some possible short-term and long-term solutions to the education budget crisis.  It is vital to have parents attend this meeting and participate in this process.   "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."  Margaret Mead

From the School Nurse
Parents, please read and go over this with your student!

As we head into cold and flu season, make sure your child is aware of good health habits that can stop the spread of germs:
*Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer *Avoid close contact with people who are sick, do NOT share beverages/food *Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated, eat breakfast - keep snacks and a water bottle in backpack

The Medication policy for high school students:
Prescription medications must be brought to the clinic by a parent. Over-the counter medicine (OTC), for example:  Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Tums & cough drops can be carried by high school students without an authorization form. *The clinic does not keep a supply of OTC medications. The OTC medicine carried by a student must be in the original container. DO NOT bring OTC medicine in a zip lock bag.
Lost and Found

Please have your student stop by lost and found in the front office to claim any items that might have been misplaced - jacket, hoodie, scarf, lunch box/bag, water bottle, etc.  Items not claimed by Friday, December 20, 2013 will be donated to a local charity.

PLEASE put your student's name on all of their personal items!  If lost, we can return the item to the student.

Senior Parking Decals

SENIOR parking decals will be available for pick up on Tuesday,  December 17th from 12:55-1:30 in the gym lobby.  Anyone who does not pick up their decal on Tuesday needs to see Mr. Milton on Wednesday during 3rd, 4th, or 5th period finals.

If you have received a notice that your packet is not complete or you have an outstanding fine and you have not corrected these issues, then you will not receive a decal.

There will be a junior lottery for any remaining spaces after the winter break.

Final Exam Schedule

During Finals...
During finals, we will continue to lock the doors around the building at 8:45 like we have all
semester.

* Students who come to a final after 8:45 can enter in the front of the building or through
the side door of the commons.
* Students should go to the commons when they come into the building unless the classes
are changing for the next final.
* Students will need to bring their study materials with them because they will not be
allowed to go to their lockers when other students are taking finals.

Thanks for your cooperation to make the school safer and the atmosphere quiet for students
taking their finals.
Is MEDICINE OR VET MEDICINE in your future?
St. George Medical School in Grenada has an awesome MED/VET academy this summer (June 24-July 5).  We currently have 17 students attending from Walton and have one opening remaining for an interested student.  Eighteen Walton students attended last summer and LOVED the experience-that is why we are going back with another group.  This is not an official Walton school trip, just interested students with Walton science teachers as chaperones for a summer experience.  Check out the website at CLICK HERE.  For more information, email Janice.cheshire@cobbk12.org
