****Conquering the School House Squeeze: Walton Cluster**
Thank you to all parents who attended Conquering the School House Squeeze on 11/11 at Walton High School.  We hope you will share the information you learned with your friends and neighbors.
 
For those who missed the presentation, the meeting was recorded and we will provide a link to the video as soon as it becomes available.  
 
Please mark your calendars for our follow-up meeting on January 9th, 2014.  We will be meeting to discuss our action plan before the legislative session begins on January 13, 2014.

The Walton PTSA will again present the Max Defense's Personal Empowerment & Defense hands-on clinic. Currently enrolled Health students will participate in this clinic during Coach Amos' classes, with online students being able to participate for free in the Community Course. The PTSA is also offering a free clinic for Walton's Senior Girls - 

  

***Parents, please note: Studies show 1 in 4 girls in high school will face an aggressor, BUT 1 in 3 college women will face an aggressor***

The Great American Smoke-Out is on November 21st

 Life is so Beautiful - Stay Alive - Don't Smoke Cigarettes
 
Walton High School will once again team up with the American Cancer Society and the Cobb County Tobacco Public Health Educator to educate our students on the dangers of smoking and to hopefully discourage them from picking up the habit. This is a nationwide event and we are proud to present it to our students.
Please encourage your students to check out the displays which will be outside the Commons during their lunch periods on Thursday, November 21st.
We are having a t-shirt and itunes raffle for students willing to sign an anti smoking pledge.

Food Drive - November 4 - 20, 2013

 

Walton's Spanish and Interact Clubs are sponsoring a food drive to provide Thanksgiving dinner for needy families in Cobb County.

 

Bring one or more of the food items listed below and place in the collection box in your homeroom, in the barrels close to the front office or by the G-Hall entrance.

 

Donut breakfast will be awarded to the homeroom contributing the most items!

 

Dressing mix/gravy, cranberry sauce, canned or instant potatoes (sweet or white), canned green/yellow vegetables, non-refrigerated pie shell and pumpkin pie mix, dried or canned milk, roasting pan, dried beans, peanut butter, canned meat, tuna, or ham, rice, pasta, or cereal, soup, canned fruit

Financial Aid Night
Learn about applying for financial aid at public and private institutions.  Presentation will include HOPE, the CSS Profile, and FAFSA information.

Student Parking
We will begin accepting applications for 2nd semester parking December 2nd-6th.  Anyone wanting to park on campus 2nd semester needs to turn in their forms that week.  Decals will be available the week of final exams.
Scholastic Book Fair

 When: Now through November 14 (on-line through Nov. 16)

Where: Walton Media Center

Times: 7:30 - 4:00 daily; 7:30 - 3:00 WEBs

 

Walton's Third Annual Raider Reader Book Fair features books for all ages and all interests. Stop by the Media Center to find out what's hot in children's and young adult literature. Titles include the newly released Diary of a Wimpy Kid #8, the Hunger Games Trilogy, Insurgent, Divergent, and more. Select popular adult titles also available.

 

 

On-line browsing and shopping are available at CLICK HERE All books purchased on-line will be delivered to students before winter break.

 

Proceeds from the sale are used to purchase books, furniture and displays for the Media Center. Ten percent of fair proceeds are donated to a Title 1 elementary school in Cobb County.

 "Into the Woods"

 

Into The Woods intertwines the stories of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales; Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack in the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, along with an original story of a Baker and his Wife and their desire to start a family and the well-known evil Witch that shows up in all fairy tales.  The story follows them as they explore the consequences of their wishes and desires.  See it at Walton before the star-studded movie starring Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine comes to local theaters!
