****WALTON PARENT MEETING ON NOVEMBER 11, 2013****
As you know, there is an anticipated $79 million shortfall expected in the coming year for the Cobb County School District budget.  This shortfall, on top of reduced money from the state and federal governments in the past five years, will negatively impact the quality of education our children receive.

On November 11, 2013, all parents are requested to attend Conquering the School House Squeeze: Walton Cluster .  The meeting will start promptly at 7 pm.  Claire Suggs, from the GBPI (Georgia Budget & Policy Institute; http://gbpi.org/) will provide a non-partisan presentation on the budget reductions within the state of Georgia and Cobb County.  Judy McNeill, principal of Walton High School, will address how the reduced funding will directly impact Walton High School. Please plan on attending this very important meeting and learn how you can make a difference.

DROP/ADD FOR SPRING SEMESTER

Students will be given an opportunity to drop or add one-semester electives for spring semester on Monday andTuesday, October 28 and 29 during lunch periods. Students will be able to pick up forms such as waivers, minimum day, tuition and flex schedule during that time. Additionally, teachers will verify the correct level placement in each year long academic course.  All waiver forms are due by Friday, November 15th.

Students interested in taking an additional course should complete a tuition form and return it along with $300 to Mrs. Rose by November 15, 2013.  Those who would like to be considered for flex schedule need to return the flex form byNovember 15, 2013.  Students wanted to take a zero period course for tuition are given preference over flex schedule.

Ordering Math Textbooks

Prior to the start of the 2013-2014 school year, the Cobb County School district approved the adoption of online student textbooks for the first three math courses offered at the high school level.  These online resources are currently being used in Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry and Honors Advanced Algebra.  With the online resources, students have access to a mathematics textbook, printed and interactive examples, online practice quizzes and links to video tutorials.  Each student has been assigned a personal login and code to the online textbook for their course.  These logins are provided by the teacher free of charge to each student enrolled in the course.  The online resources are available to students for the entire school year.  Should a student not have online access, there are CD Rom copies of the textbook available for checkout through the bookroom.

Many parents have expressed an interest in purchasing a print textbook for their student to use in conjunction with the online resources.  The print textbook will have the same examples and assignments but will not include any of the interactive capabilities.  These textbooks are available for purchase through Walton High School at a nominal cost.  You may order as many copies of the book as you wish but are NOT required to order any at all.  All assignments can be completed using the online textbook.

Order forms will be distributed in math classes on Tuesday, October 15th.    If you wish to purchase a textbook, please complete the bottom portion of the form, make a check payable to Walton High School and return your order to your student's math teacher NO LATER than Friday, November 1st.

Accident Avoidance Workshops

A quick quiz for you:

1~ Do you want to be more comfortable with the idea of sending your student out on to Atlanta roads?

2~ When trying to correct your student while driving, do you get the "I know, I know" or "let me drive" attitude from them?

3~ Does your student have more faith in their driving abilities, or think they know more about driving than you feel is justified?

4~ Does your student show little if any interest in driving or is uncertain, timid, or overly-anxious behind the wheel?

5~ Do you want your student to have more than "driver's ed" in preparation for Atlanta roads because you feel the "absolute minimum" state requirements aren't enough?

If you answered "yes" to more of these than you're comfortable with, we can help with every single one of your above concerns, and then some.

The Accident Avoidance Workshops is "driver trainin' the way it oughta be".

The Workshops are coming right to Walton High School this November.  CLICK HERE for more information and for a complete schedule, or call 770-262-7009.  If you are ready to register you may CLICK HERE
