 East Cobber Parade Is Here!
The 18th Annual East Cobber Parade will take place this Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 a.m...rain or shine!  Come on out and support Principal Judy McNeill and Teacher of the Year, Joymichelle Green, as they cruise by along with the Walton Marching Band!  Many East Cobb vendors and businesses, churches and civic groups will once again be represented. The parade begins at Mt. Bethel Elementary and processes down Johnson Ferry to the Olde Towne parking lot where there will be games, inflatables, food, fun ... and more!  You won't want to miss this wonderful East Cobb event!
Book Room Refund Process

When a student/parent pays for a missing/lost textbook, they are given a small, white Cobb County School District receipt for payment that contains a receipt number.  This original receipt is required, per CCSD, in order to process a refund.  When the receipt is issued, we instruct students/parents to please hold onto this receipt.

We do, on occasion, receive a lost book at the beginning of the school year from the previous year.  This is why it is necessary for you to hold onto that receipt.  No refund will be issued without the Original White Numbered Receipt.

Lost and Found

There are quite a few lunch boxes and water bottles in lost & found that have not been claimed.  Please send your student to the front office to check if any of these items might belong to him/her.  I encourage you to put their name on all personal items, i.e., lunch boxes, water bottles, jackets, calculators, pencil cases.  If found, we can get the item back to the student immediately.  Otherwise, it sits in Lost & Found and if not claimed, is donated to a local charity.

Thank you, in advance, for your support.

High School Med/Vet Academy Information Session
This summer 18 Walton students interested in medicine or vet medicine traveled to Grenada to attend a 10 day high school med/vet academy at St. George Medical School. Three Walton teachers traveled with the students.   The academy was awesome and the students loved it.  We are now working on the group for summer 2014.  There is a parent meeting Tuesday, Sept 24th at 6:30 pm at Walton in room C173 for those wanting more details.  This is not a school sponsored trip.  The 2014 Academy dates are June 24-July 5.

2013-2014 Reflections Competition
2013-2014 Reflections Competition:  "Believe, Dream, Inspire"

Reflections is a competition sponsored by the National PTA.  This year the theme of the competition is "Believe, Dream, Inspire".  Students can submit entries inspired by the theme in any or all of six categories:  Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.  In addition, students who are eligible may  compete as Special Artists in any of the categories.  WHS students compete first at the school level, then county, state and nationally.  Last year's competition was very successful; Walton's committee received 105 entries - 25 of those were chosen to compete at the State Level and five were chosen to compete nationally!

We'd like to have the same or greater success this year!  The deadline to submit Reflections entries is Thursday, October 10th.  Competition rules and entry forms are posted to the PTSA web page on the "Reflections" tab

Informational Meeting on Operation Wallacea
The Walton Science Department is hosting an informational session about our exciting expedition to Dominica in the Caribbean this summer to help with a biodiversity survey and research for professors affiliated with Clemson University. This expedition is specifically targeted at students who are presently taking AP Biology or AP Environmental Science. The project will be hosted by Operation Wallacea, which is an organization that runs a series of biological and conservation management research programs that operate in remote locations around the world. This research is hands-on science at its best! The meeting will be held in Dr. Camp's classroom, E-181 on Tuesday, October 15 at 7:30 pm. For more information about the program, please visit their website at www.opwall.com. Questions about the meeting may be addressed to Dr. Camp at sharon.camp@cobbk12.org

Accident Avoidance Workshops

Driver trainin' the way it ought'a be!

Question:  If there was a captivating program you could attend with your student, that would reduce the likelihood of them being involved in an accident by more than 75%, would you attend?  And if so, how much would that be worth to you?  How does less than ½ of your insurance deductible sound?

Yes, the Accident Avoidance Workshops is that program.  Yes, it costs less than ½ of the typical $500 deductible.  Yes, you can write a portion of it off on your taxes.  Yes, both you AND your student will receive Defensive Driving Certificates, which has saved some families over $500 a year for 3 years running.  But don't do it because of the money.  Do it because your student can't be replaced.

The Workshops are coming right to Walton High School this November.  CLICK HERE for more information and for a complete schedule, or call 770-262-7009.  If you are ready to register, you may CLICK HERE.
